Greetings Huffsters. Well here I am, once again, not knowing the etiquette of bloggery. (Blogerism? Blogcraft?) But I received a comment to my last post to which I'd like to openly reply. I actually tried to respond in the comments field but was told by "Hal" (as I have come to call my evil desktop computer) that I was not allowed to. But since I actually felt that this comment to one line in my last post was worthy of real clarification, here goes...

Ventana writes...

"Why would you want to eliminate the extremist Christian right?

"Don't they deserve to have a place at the table?

"And after we 'eliminate' them, what other groups could we 'eliminate?'

"Mmm?"

Well Ventana, when I said "eliminate" I truly meant to employ a different tactic to simply wrest the inequitable amount of power this one group seems to hold. Of course everyone deserves a seat at the table. But this table was built to feed everyone. And if they are eating into our portions, as I see them doing, then someone needs to be sent to their room without supper until they learn better. (I warned you guys about my extended metaphors, didn't I?) The fact is that I am a man of faith. But that faith is my business and mine alone. I still believe in the separation of church and state as an important cornerstone of our democracy. An all inclusive democracy that doesn't draw upon the specific text of any one faith when setting policies. And the bottom line is that scripture can be and is often interpreted in so many different ways that the very application of any bible passage is often done so perilously. I think we have a hard enough time interpreting the Constitution and the laws of the land without throwing the Old and New Testament into the soup. (Soup? See, it's always back to food with me.)

I guess I just wanted to make two points here. First, that faith is a fine thing in moderation, like alcohol or candy. But too much of any of those substances in the system is toxic and potentially lethal. And the second and more important point being that I am starting to find my inner pundit! So how do you like me now, Amy?
