A native of Utah, Adams received a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Utah before earning his master's in business administration at Utah State University. Prior to joining the Michigan League as president/CEO in August of 1997, Adams served as the Washington League president from 1991-1997. He also served on the staff of the Utah Credit Union League for 10 years, the last three as president/CEO. He began his career as an internal auditor for a large Savings & Loan in Utah.

During his credit union career, Adams has served on several boards and committees. These have included service as a director on the Magic Line and NYCE Boards as well as the Board of Directors of U.M.T.A. Credit Union and the Utah Corporate Credit Union. Adams has also taught as an adjunct professor for the University of Michigan and Wayne State University teaching financial institution management courses. Adams also served on Gov. Granholm’s Council of Economic Advisors.
