Poetry Corner

As rumored in the Scandinavian press, lately I've been in a bit of an introspective and reflective sort of mood. And I've been giving a lot of thought to all the crazy stuff that's been going on in the world lately- stuff like the war overseas, those puppies that somehow got tangled up with some Colombian drug dealers a couple months back, and- perhaps most of all- the current frenzy over Hollywood's Julia Roberts. In light of all this, I've been trying to figure out what I- Dave Hill, America's foremost political analyst- can do to really help make this world a better place and perhaps even start helping people for a change (I mean, I realize I help tons of people all the time by just being me, but hopefully you see my point).

After a lot of really heavy contemplation (lights were dimmed or turned off altogether at various points), a few drinks, and a seriously awesome nap, I decided that the best way someone like me- Dave Hill, America's foremost political analyst- can help other people is to start taking myself more seriously as an artist. So- keeping all of that in mind- the past couple days I've really been getting into poetry. And It's been really great for me and also really great for other people because- as it turns out- poetry is just one more thing that I'm pretty f*cking sweet at. In fact, if it's okay with you, I'd like to share one of my brand new poems with you, the people that read stuff on this popular website, right now. My poem is called "I Am The Night" and I really, really hope you enjoy it. Please feel free to pass it on to others, recite it in front of work release program attendees, and/or have it engraved into tasteful wall hangings happened upon while touring Colonial Williamsburg. Anyway, here goes:

"I Am The Night" by America's foremost political analyst/poet laureate Dave Hill

I am the night

I come to you at end of the day

You might need to turn on a lamp or something

That is because I am dark

I am at times also mysterious, but trust me on this one, the lamp is not going to help much with that

I mean, it might, but don't count on it

I am the night

Dave Hill
