2011 Holiday Gift Guide Comic Books (Photos)

Posted: 12/08/11 12:14 PM ET

Gifts are always a great opportunity to buy people things they normally wouldn't buy for themselves. Comics are something, unfortunately, some people still don't see themselves buying. Have you been itching to get your friends and family into stuff, or even yourself, and not really sure what to get? I honestly believe there is a comic out there for almost everyone, they just have to take that plunge and give the medium a chance. So I'll try my damnedest to help you find that perfect comic for your loved ones. Here goes!

Daytripper is a book about life and the little moments that make us who we are. It's one of the most beautiful and sincere books I've ever read. Great for everyone, especially for those who have never read a comic book before. Delicately written and gorgeously drawn and colored.

For those who love gangster stories, I strongly recommend Vertigo's "Gangland" series from a few years ago. It's available in a paperback volume.

And, you can never go wrong buying someone any of the EC Archives Collections.

And, in honor of my av, "The Green Lantern/Green Arrow Collection" is always a good read.

Scott Snyder's, "The Black Mirror," is one of the best Batman runs ever. And it doesn't even feature Bruce Wayne as Batman. Snyder brings a chilling horror esthetic to the comic making the arc much creepier than a typical bout with the Penguin or Riddler. A must read.

Black Mirror is at the top of my list. On a big DC kick lately. Just read a cool rundown of DC holiday comics: http://www.popfunk.com/blog/view/holiday-comics/

Once there was a bitter rift in comic fandom; those who thought that superheroes were hokey and overdone, and those who wouldn't even consider a book unless the lead was wearing spandex.

My hat's off to anybody making an effort to bridge that gap. I've been away from comics too long; maybe it's time to check back in.

Dave, if you have any pull in this place, it sure would be nice to have a Comic Section at HuffPo.

Or maybe not.

I would probably spend all of my time there! :)
