The Haiti Kids Kino Project (HKKP) is a temporary social cinema for children in Haiti affected by the earthquake. The project screens films for children and provides workshops where possible to make their own films.
The HHKP is organized by The Cube Cinema in the UK. The HKKP is a micro-humanitarian goodwill project to provide an opening for escape, community, emotion and social occasion to a people and a place devastated by natural disaster. Haitian children are experiencing damage and despair, and further anxiety can grow through inaction, loneliness, isolation and boredom. Sharing the experience of making and watching films, and offering a temporary respite, the Haiti Kids Kino Project aims to contribute to quality of life through creating, sharing, reflecting, forging friendships and connections.
Marko Wilkinson and David Fitzsimmons of the HKKP have been in Haiti over the last few months. More funds are needed for the Project to carry on. You can keep track of their experiences or donate via http://nanoplex.cubecinema.com/blog/
We arrived at the Hands On Disaster Relief base in Leogane late on Thursday, bit of a rush to get our tents up. Jhon Adams, our interpreter, was lucky enough to get a bunk for the night.

We then set up the Lycra screen for the show by stretching from the roof.
By doing the screening it was a way of paying for our food and accommodation. We started with Wallace and Gromit "A Matter of Loaf and Death" (plenty of laughs from audience). Then onto three video post cards made by the children in the camp at Delmar 95 (plenty of arrhhh's from the audience followed by applause's).
'Hedgehog in the Fog' was next and much appreciated.

Then it was time for the feature which was chosen by election with Inglorious Bastards gaining the most votes. But unfortunately the rain came in very heavy and fast and ended our screening for the eve. The equipment was saved though, as there was plenty of people to help.
