The Vaccine-Autism Story: Trust Your Government, or Be a Patriot and Get on Google

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

A big autism bomb went off yesterday, about how US medical personnel had determined that vaccines had aggravated a little girl's mitochondrial disorder, resulting in autism. Now, the American people are left to interpret what it all means.

Here is a handy guide. You can:

A) Blindly trust what government officials are saying (or not saying)

or

B) Invest 30 minutes in the future of your nation's young people (do it now, over a nice, warm latte!) and go Google for yourself.

OPTION A:

Yesterday, Dr Paul E. Jarris, Executive Director of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) sent an email to his colleague, Anna DeBlois, on how officials should respond to the glaring headlines emanating from Atlanta.

"You may have seen the recent media interest in a vaccine-autism lawsuit which was settled by the federal government," he wrote. Apparently, someone in the federal government had reached Dr. Jarris and told him to pass on the following (internal) explanation:

The case was settled because the vaccine worsened the child's underlying and previously undiagnosed disorder, causing impaired brain function. These symptoms of impaired brain function then led to an autism spectrum disorder. The federal government maintains that vaccines do not cause autism, and that this case does not indicate any change in their position on the issue.

TRANSLATION (An Anti-Syllogism): "Vaccines cause brain impairment, and brain impairments cause autism. Therefore vaccines do not cause autism."

Meanwhile yesterday, back in Washington, Bush administration officials would not comment on the case, saying they needed permission, "from the person who submitted the information" to the court.

TRANSLATION (Auto-Censorship): "We really, really want to explain WHY we folded like a tent without so much as a whisper of a defense, but that would require asking permission from our lawyer (the DOJ), which we are unwilling to do.

And most recently, CDC Director Julie Gerberding told the media that the American people need to "set aside this very isolated, unusual situation," even though "the court apparently made the decision that it is fair to say that vaccinations may have been one of the precipitators."

TRANSLATION: (Middlebrow Bureaucratese) "I am either an exceedingly ignorant, untruthful or misleading Director, because there is no evidence at all that this situation is 'isolated and unusual' (indeed, the evidence points to the opposite), and because the court 'decision' was not made by the court at all, but rather by medical doctors who work for the US Secretary of Health and Human Services," otherwise known as Dr. Gerberding's boss.

OPTION B)

Google "autism and mitochondria," (96,900 hits) and then Google "mercury and mitochondria," (169,000 hits) and draw your own, informed conclusions.

Now, enjoy your coffee (and your good citizenship).

PS: The next time someone tells you that this girl does not have autism, but only the "symptoms" of autism, you tell them that the definition of autism is having the symptoms of autism. Period. Hannah Poling has autism as defined by every medical book, on every shelf, in every library -- including at the colleges where all these government officials received their degrees.

So... autistic symptoms and not autism...
Is that similar to: SORT OF PREGNANT?

This story would be funny if it was not so tragic.
A generation of kids are affected and our government looks like an episode of the three stooges.

Are vaccines safe? Drink your late, do your research and YOU DECIDE.
Letting the govenment decide? No thanks.

Read the DSM-IV criteria for an autism diagnosis. Yes, you can have some of the signs of autism but not have enough to fit the criteria. Just like you can have some symptoms of depression but not meet the criteria for a clinical diagnosis.

I supposed it's possible to show some signs of pregnancy without actually being pregnant, but being a man, I have no first hand experience.

Several years ago, my wife had the symptoms of pregnancy. Later, she had a child. My father had death-like symptoms, and it turned out he was dead. My Grandfather had symptoms that mimic cancer. This resulted in death-like symptoms later on as well, which resulted in a slight case of death. My son received a vaccination, and as a result, he had many autism-like symptoms. Turns out, he's autistic.

Thanks Mr. Kirby. I got a much needed laugh from this article on a day when my 6 year old autistic son is being particularly difficult. It amazes me about how their twisted logic flies completely in the face of normal logic. Gotta love that medical double speak.

Here's a little tidbit for you guys. The CDC recently released a public apology to the Katrina Victims for having formaldahyde in the trailors. According to the CDC, formaldahyde has no known safe level of exposure. It is a known poison and carcinogen. However, on the CDC website here: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vac-gen/additives.htm, it shows that vaccines contain formalahyde to "inactivate bacterial products"...and that it is used "to kill unwanted viruses and bacteria that might be found in cultures used to produce vaccines." But, the CDC says that vaccines are safe! They openly admit that formaldahyde is unsafe, dangerous in any amount, and yet they put it in vaccines, but vaccines are safe.

More medical double speak....

"...formaldahyde has no known safe level of exposure." This is nonsense, CW. Small amounts of formaldehyde are produced as a metabolic byproduct in most organisms, including humans. We all have formaldehyde in us, even the unvaccinated.

I guess the CDC should take back their apology to the Katrina folks then eh?

Ironically just now one of my press releases on Thursday's vaccine/autism press conference was rebuffed by a senior producer at American Public Media's Public Insight Journalism division. Never mind that people quoted included a neurologist, a geneticist/physician, a geneticist/pediatrician, and an attorney.

The mainstream media is increasingly obsolete due to their propensity to act as willing footsoldiers in the dispersal of self-protecting bureaucratic blather. Whatever happened to investigative journalism???

Apparently it went the way of the dinosaur. The sad thing is, it seems as though valid research can only get funding through sources already tainted in some way by the pharmaceutical industry.

There you go again, ANB. Snicker, snicker. Don't you have anything better to do than make fun of sincere people?
And what's with your adamant need for 'peer-reviewed' studies, in all the usual suspect places? Why are epidemiological studies the sine qua non in this matter? You know how statistics can lie - and not pick up a subset in the first place. Why aren't you as taken with toxicological studies, and clinical studies - and the firsthand reports of parents who saw their children, upon having their shots, go into high-pitched screaming and inconsolable crying and into floppy-doll mode, and try to get rid of the pain in their guts & their constipation by bending over chair arms, and spin around endlessly and stare at lights and walk on their toes and just 'simply' disappear on them. Just because you don't think vaccines had anything to do with your child's symptoms, why would you put down other parents who do, just because this subset hasn't appeared on the studies that the authorities - who are after all responsible for the vaccine schedule in the first place - run? Are these parents stupid? They just don't know better? They're helplessly naive scientifically?
The best science that is going to come out of this episode in history is going to come out of the indefatigable digging of parents for answers to the loss of their children to this appalling neurological condition. Cut them some slack, ANB & Co. And let's look at the WHOLE picture here.

Excellent article, David! The government continues to try to cloud the issue in so many ways. Thankfully, I finally feel as if they are losing the battle at this point. There is only so long that you can lie, lie and lie again before people start waking up. Blessings to all the moms (and dads) out there who have fought so hard to make sure that their stories are told despite the difficulties in doing so.

The case was settled because the vaccine worsened the child's underlying and previously undiagnosed disorder, causing impaired brain function.

Huh?

Question: How can an “undiagnosed disorder” worsen? For something to “worsen” it would have to already be “bad” and the fact that it was “undiagnosed” would seem to indicate that they had no idea it was there in the first place.

Usually, when something is medically “bad” you’ve got symptoms to go along with it. According to her parents, she was perfectly fine before her vaccinations.

So much for that theory doc, next?

Heh...absolutely. It was previously undiagnosed, but suddenly appeared after the vaccination. Good catch.

The government obviously doesn't want their pet monkeys and fundraisers (big pharma) to foot the bill for the resulting BILLIONS of dollars in damages done hurting a good percentage of our future generation. Government by and for the people? Our founding fathers -the joke's on you (and us).

In future as the next generation grows up, we can expect from the general populace all the symptoms of what we have wrought from this epidemic: namely poor social/ communication skills, little or no feelings of empathy, relating to objects rather than other people and lack of abstract thought.

What a country! What a future! and it will only affect (so far) 1 in 100 people.

Truth can be delayed. But it cannot be buried. All these CDC, AAP,IOM and the Vaccine industry cannot suppress the Truth about Vaccines, Mercury and Autism forever.

Thank you David for your courageous fight against the tide.

No offense, but there was a post on HuffPo about this three days ago.

Just because the corporate media didn't get to this story until yesterday, it doesn't mean they get to decide when the bomb went off.

Let's not sugarcoat reality when the MSM acts like an aftenoon edition of a paper.

Well said David.

And thanks for running around NYC yesterday doing interviews for networks like CNN. You are a voice of reason in a world full of people afraid to be sued.

Thanks so much for this, David! It made me laugh on a day when my son is being particularly difficult. You gotta love the medical doublespeak and how their logic completely defies logic. Some research that I looked into was concerning the CDC and formaldehyde. Dr. Jim Lando, a physician with the public health service, mentions in a recent press conference where the CDC is apologizing to the victims of Katrina who had formaldehyde in their trailers that, "...there's no known safe level of exposure." Most, if not all, health authorities agree with this assertion. However, on the CDC's website, they mention that they use formaldehyde in vaccines to inactivate the live viruses.

It is a known carcinogen, and yet they put it in our babies. It is widely agreed that it is an unsafe substance to put into the human body, and yet they force us to inject it into the bodies of tiny children. But, its perfectly safe, says the CDC.

More medical doublespeak......

Formaldehyde occurs naturally. Your makes it during the oxidation of methanol. Everybody carries formaldehyde in their bodies.

I know that inconvenient little truths like this don't matter to people bound and determined to undermine public heatlh. But seriously - if you have a point to make, can't you at least do some reading, and get your facts straight? Reading Jenny McCarthy doesn't count.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:53 PM on 03/07/2008

So, because formaldehyde occurs naturally... it is therefore a good idea to inject it into the bodies of little babies? Cool. Who knew?

Maybe you should apply for a job at the CDC.

Thank you Mr. Kirby, as always. I was first a patriot and subsequently the parent of a profundly autistic and beautiful son named Andrew. Doing my duty for him is now my foremost concern.

Can I continue to be a patriot in a country whose government behaves this way? Yes, I can. By replacing them and using the justice system to force them to do the right thing.

Here is a redux for tobacco makers: Cigarettes do not cause cancer. They may only worsen the undelying condition of cancer and result in symptoms that look like death.

The link between cigarettes and cancer has been confirmed by empirical data. So it's not really the same, thing, is it?

Mothers of children who began to display symptoms of autism after receiving vaccinations know only too well the connection. Apparently it is the job of our "Justice" department to protect the financial interests of vaccine manufacturers, rather than the health of our children.

There was more mercury in an infant's vaccinations than the EPA recommended that pregnant women consume.

As a nation, we need to hold these corporate criminals accountable for their crimes against humanity.

I would never recommend routine vaccinations to any parents, knowing what I know, seeing what I have seen.
