Journey To The Center Of Hillary Clinton's Mind: "Why Would I Drop Out Before Barack Obama Is Assassinated?"

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

(The title of this post is satirical. It is not a direct quote from Senator Clinton.)

Anybody watch Step It Up And Dance last night? HOT STUFF!

Anyway gang, I just read something remarkable. "Remarkable" as in, "It is remarkable that my eyeballs are still in my head after reading that."

In an interview with the editorial board of the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader today, Hillary Clinton brought up Bobby Kennedy's June, 1968 assassination as an argument against her dropping out of the Democratic primary.

"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.

She has a point: June is a great month for political assassinations.

Why drop out of the race before all the assassins have had their say?

After all, we know Barack Obama has received multiple death threats -- because he is black, of course, and because some of our fellow citizens think he's a secret Muslim terrorist who is going to take the oath of office on the Koran and make us all pray to Mecca five times a day with that screechy music coming over the loudspeakers(?) and then he'll crash Air Force One into the White House(?) and force our wives to wear those Muslim beekeeper helmets(?).

And the truth is, Obama has consistently failed to win over those voters who want to see him murdered.

UPDATE (5:45 PM):

In the interest of fairness, I should note that Hillary has since apologized for her curious statement. That is, she has apologized to the Kennedys.

Sent to Dean and the Supers:

Dear Chairman Dean,

As the Democratic Nomination process has unfolded, the myriad of ups, downs, and bizarre events have neither been few, nor unexpected. On the contrary, the excitement has generated unprecedented voter registration, turn-out, and media coverage. On balance, the entire process has been good for the Democratic Party.

Senator Obama has now earned the right to become the Democratic Nominee, based on the Delegate counts, and legitimate popular vote count. Senator Clinton had earned the right to complete the race with dignity, assuming that her actions would not damage Obama or the Party.

My question to you and the Super Delegates is simply this: Given Senator Clinton's REPEATED references to assassination, which is extremely damaging to both Obama and the Party, at what point will the DNC show the honor and grit necessary to fully advance the true goal - winning in November?

Despite the support Clinton received from RFK, jr., too many of us believe that a Master Politician, as is Senator Clinton, is not the victim of a harmless gaffe, but is plainly projecting Subliminal Messages to anyone who will receive them. Why ALLOW a potential tragedy to befall our Country?

I ask that you exercise the limits of your influence to bring this race to an end immediately. Senator Clinton has been given full benefit of the doubt, shown more than ample respect, and has now exceeded any possibility of a graceful exit.

Sincerely,

Might you please post how we all can send outreach to Chairman Dean? This heinous story has died over the weekend, and we, who believe that dying should not be in the gamechanger's playbook, would be ready, willing and able to add our protest and plea to the DNC and Supers to not let this travesty pass.

Hillary is doing a jig in Puerto Rico as if nothing happened, as if nothing dangerous was spoken, on the record, by her, last Friday.

If we stay mum on this horror, the Supers and DNC will continue a passive path, and with a big win in PR, Hillary will claim she has won the popular vote.

What she did not win was respect and any sense of presidential qualifications with her repeated comments that something could happen to Obama.

Enough of this homegrown terror talk.

If you can help, please post the addresses and this will be addressed instead of be spun by Bill as another victim statement for his wife.

It hasn;t died because of what Liz Trotta said on Fox. Now they are actually joking about assasination on the main stream media, assasinating Obama, that is, whom she called "Osama." So Hilary's heinous comment still has legs, it allows everyone to talk about it now - on the air. Wonderful. Why can't she keep her big mouth shut???? Why can't she concede gracefully, as O. has won fair and square? How can anyone listen to her or believe her? Can someone please put this Hilary campaign out of its misery?

The beauty of Olbermann's riff was twofold: one, it had the bracing wind of truth behind it--it's been so long since anyone in the media has had the guts to call the Clintons on their B.S., and not to fold under the Clintonian crap about how tough the media is on poor little Hillary; and two, by listing the serial Hillary offenses all together, Olbermann showed just how much sewer-water has been pumping from the Billary Machine for the past several months. Indeed, when this nutcase finally is hauled off the stage, and the dust clears and people start looking back at the campaign, stomachs will turn when everyone realizes the sheer accumulation of lies, distortions, unprincipled attacks and more lies which have been piled up by Billary Clinton and their sleaze-infested pals like Penn, Blumenthal and Carville.

I know, every time the media gets tough on Hillary she cries wolf! And they back down again and again. The media is tough on Hillary because of all her underhanded tactics. Actually, I think the media has been rather kind to her.

And yet Olbermann was a wuss when he intervired Hillary -- why is that?

He's only brave looking into a camera lens?

"June is a great month for political assassinations."

It's clear that Clinton didn't intend, consciously or subconsciously, to raise that specter, but it's equally clear that Rees gleefully DOES... for a cheap, lowbrow punchline that isn't at all funny.

Dear Still Amused, Read the Clinton Body Count...google it.....;no other President in History has had so many deceased people as the Clamptons, oops Clintons. Terrible but true, and if you compare Presidents and deceased people who worked for them, you'll find out ....Clintons win!

Does that include the 4,000-plus Americans who "worked" for George W. Bush in the military (or the hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis he 'liberated')?

Guess I can understand your feverishly embracing this kind of tinfoil idiocy, once you discovered that Bigfoot lives under your bed.

To understand delusion, combined with evil, just watch her campaigning in Puerto Rico. She looks almost happy and without any regrets about her disgusting comments.
The clock is ticking for Superdelegates to make their move. Hey Supers: Are you loyal to our Party, and country, or to this unbalanced woman?

It's really getting to where I can't even read this blog anymore (Huffington Post, I mean, not just the nonsensical stuff posted by others masquerading as voices or columnists).

I can't wait for this election to be over. But even then I suppose, I really dread the prospect of coming back here to look for insightful commentary.

beats the pundit sites who bury stories like this. check abcnews, cbsnews, nytimes, cnnpolitics, et al and see where u will find hillary's rfk comment and subsequent, unapologetic regret commentary. i'll give u a hint: u'll have to put "hillary rfk" in the search box. i should also mention that even the posts of her blaming obama is kinda buried. i'll even venture to say that this story won't make the morning daily news like gma, today, et al. buried in the holiday punditry.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:23 PM on 05/26/2008

you are SO right. CNN, FOX, GMA, TODAY, have all buried the Clinton catastrophic comments while she is doing the tango in PR.

This is an outrage.

YOU CAN BE SURE IF OBAMA HAD SAID ANYTHING LIKE THIS, OR EVEN IF MCCAIN HAD......the 24/ news cycles on cable would keep running and running it.

PLEASE write to, blog on, e-mail ALL THE MAJOR MEDIA to not bury this story.

It could be a real, real tragedy if we don't heed Clinton's dangerous words.

It IS she, of course who nailed OBAMA on what "just words" meant.

IS THIS DOUBLE STANDARD PART OF HER VICTIM stance? Will she not use her own critique towards herself?

If she won't, WE MUST.

Keep the story alive. It is life and death we are talking about here..not politics.

I am really tired of Hillary Clinton dividing the democratic party. Back in the 90's and just as recently as this winter I truly admired the Clintons and expected her to be the presumptive nominee for the dems come fall. A lot of my Republican friends I have had to constantly say I am sorry to as of recent days and months. I cannot believe any independent woman in this country can actually vote for her. I was raised by a single mother with a family of 8 siblings, the one thing she taught me was to be honest and sincere. I cannot believe how she is claiming sexism, Obama, etc., et. al for her downfall. It is her and only her and her campaign that has done her harm. She never even cringed when that politician in Indiana said she had the "testicular fortitude" to be the leader of this country. That comment only made her smile. What has the world come to if you believe she has been treated unfairly? I'm like Keith Olbermann she CANNOT be forgiven for the ASSASSINATION word. I began to worry when she continues to mis-speak about the Florida and Michigan vote. The bible has a quote that says the people should be led like "sheep". We all know Sheep are some dumb little animals. People WAKE UP!! Hillary Clinton is not for anyone but herself and Bill. "Obliterate" Iran! Not a quality of a dem.

David Rees' interpretation of the comment came from David Rees' mind, not Sen. Clinton's. And David, there's an old saying that the pen is mightier than the sword. Most of us believe that a person should be of sound mind before handling anything that powerful. Your mind seems to dwell on the dark side, where smear tactics are born. I would suggest that even you know very well that Sen. Clinton would never think what you have so irresponsibly imputed to her. Doesn't Obama have enough good points to win on his own merits? Apparently, you don't think so. You feel you have 'stir the pot' against his opponent. I hate to tell you, but people are getting tired of these exaggerated fears. Your over-protectiveness of your candidate is getting on our nerves.

Moderator's Pick

HuffPost's Pick

We've had Michelle's "really proud of my country", Obama's "clinging bittergate", McCain's "100 year war", and Hillary's "RFK assassination" gaffe--which I concede is the new gold standard of verbal gaffes.

I just finished reading "The Making of the President", the detailed, fascinating book on the 1960 Kennedy-Nixon race. A race that was decided on the basis of policy, substance, style, and personality--but no gaffes. I'm sure each of them said things that today would be seized on as gaffes, but looking for gaffes wasn't part of political coverage then.

With the rise of cable, the 24/7 news cycle, live streaming, and the internet blogosphere, verbal gaffes are pored over, and analyzed relentlessly--to what purpose. I certainly would hate to have my every word microscrutinized for some deep psychological insight into my soul, and intentions. I've said things to people where I thought the meaning was quite clear, only to find out that it was taken in another way.

Michelle has been unfairly painted as unpatriotic, Obama as an elitist, McCain as a warmonger--okay, maybe that one is accurate. And Hillary as wanting something horrible to happen to Obama. I'm sure that all the presidential candidates of the past both great, and mediocre, said things that today's media would crucify them wih. Are we as an electorate being well served by "gaffe politics"? Do any of these gaffes really help us make better decisions as to who should be our president? I don't think so.

Amen!!!

Why doesn't Huffpost post this as an article instead of the inane and destructive spinning of Mr. Rees? And what is all this stuff about how "divisive" Hillary is for saying something factually accurate? Primaries have gone on longer than this before, and that's all that she meant. Any suggestion otherwise is the stuff of supermarket tabloid journalism.

...Of COURSE she is not trying to wish any harm on Obama. What the hell are you people thinking? All you are showing

Neither Obama, nor any other presidential candidate in memory--except Hillary--has ever had the poor taste or bad judgment to bring up the possibility of "A" in response to a question about why she is staying in a losing race. Yes, she's had a couple of recent wins. She's also lost, by very big margins, lots and lots of times. She lost this race in early February and it's past time that somebody who loves her sat her down and told her so.

I was thinking the exact same thing this weekend, what politician has ever said that in response to why they continue their campaign. No one, ever.

Indeed--why are so many Dems afraid to speak plain truth, that Hillary is acting in a beastly manner, slinging around forebodings of "something bad" happening to Obama, then flinging the word "assassinated" around like it means nothing, while Bill meanwhile--somehow finding time to campaign between whispering endearments to his 3 (currently) mistresses -- continues to say, on a daily basis as cameras roll, that Obama cannot win in November. Why the Dem powerbrokers are sitting mute and idle while Hillary and Bill use the party as their personal potty, boggles the mind,

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:19 PM on 05/26/2008

SHE WAS NOT BRINGING UP THE POSSIBILITY OF AN OBAMA ASSISSINATION AS A REASON TO KEEP RUNNING. ALL SHE SAID WAS THAT PRIMARIES USED TO LAST LONGER THAN THEY DO NOW. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?

The Obama campaign is fanning the flames of controversy by putting Hillary's quotes completely out of context. It is the dirtiest of dirty and divisive campaigning and a far cry from the politics of hope.

Is this putting us on a path towards unifying the party? Is this how Obama plans to rope in the 17 MILLION Clinton supporters? By making her out to be some kind of murderous thug? You people are deluded if you think you can win the general election by alienating Clinton supporters like this. It will be another sorry case of Democrats snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. A journey to the center of Clinton's mind . . . hmm . . . at least someone knows where it is since she lost it quite awhile ago!

I don't know about supporters elsewhere, but last weekend here in Nevada at our Democratic State Convention, while the majority were friendly, it was the Clinton supporters that were out of line. One walked up to some of our Obama supporters demanding to know how they could vote for a n------!! Others wanted to know how we could vote for Hussein!!

I know Obama supporters like him to be the victim, but there are probably quite a few deranged Obama supporters that would love to kill Hillary.

The hatred for her that I see in the blogs, the horrible name-calling, the rude crowds...

If any group has acted more likely to commit a crime it's the fanatics that support Obama.

You know it's funny how the universe works ..................... sometimes people want to be the victim.
They say and do things to get attention, both positive and negative.
Then when they do get the attention it is either to apologize or to bemoan how hard it is to move on with all this attention on them.

This is the hrc mode of operation. Consistently.

People are negative towards her because they are tired of it. The Obama supporters do not care to kill anyone ...... they just want the lying to stop, the bs to stop, and the drama to stop.
It all has to stop so that we can make this country a better place to live.

Influential Blacks have more reason to worry about this in America than influential women do. There are much more examples of it. I won't even bother to list them for you, because you know it as well as I do.

Hillary knows this too; why do you think it came to mind so easily for her?

All the threats of her supporters to vote for McSame if she doesn't steal the nomination - is that sensible behavior? There are enough loons to go around - Hillary's camp isn't free of them, either.

She didn't have to plant the idea in the minds of some of the half-wits who might not have thought of it.

I have NEVER, NEVER, let me repeat to you like you are a teenager or perhaps a person who never READS, NEVER have I read any Obama supporter say that Hillary should be assinated or killed or murdered. I have READ Obama supporters say mean statements about her.....but NEVER has the "A" word been uttered like Hillary did....And let me tell you this is not the first time she has uttered the "A" word before...just like she repeated 3 times until she got caught doging sniper fire in Bosnia. She "mispeaks" often .....in fact so often she is not fit to be commander in chief and start another war with her problem of "Mispeaking"....She mispoke about running from sniper fire....now she misspoke about assinassination in June. This is not Presidential. She STARTS PROBLEMS, starts racial and gender statements and turns around and says Obama supporters not Obama, his supporters, are not allowed to call her on her false statements of being a victim....She has been around the block many times and says she is EXPERIENCED on DAY ONE. and that she herself said she KNOWS how politicians think and act....she should .....she plays the game so well....
Obama has NEVER called her on anything she has started
Obama Supporters have Called her on all her DIVISIVNESS.

The time for real change is now. HRC represents nothing but the SOS in DC.
See her for who she is and what she represents: the old corporate guard who
run this world, where the bottom line is end-all and be-all. Mere people don't matter.
Money is king. Wealth is god. She will say anything and do anything to achieve her aims.

Obama's camp have taken the high road at every turn.
The Obama camp have never changed rules or "metrics" to suit their agendas.
They have played square and fair.
They have not back-tracked or "mis-spoken" some heaping pile of abject lies.
They have not wavered. This is the new politic we need from a leader.

We owe our children, and all future generations, at least that much-
when handing them the bill for this illegal war and the squandering

a milieu where anything and anything will be said and done to pacify
a nation of sheep:
Baaaaa. Baaaaa.
