News Alert! Some fancy lady named Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild has decided that Barack Obama is an "elitist" and therefore she's going to endorse John McCain.
Is this the greatest news factoid of all time?
Answer: YES.
It turns out ol' Lady Lynn Forester der von Rothschild -- who "splits her time time between London and New York" -- was a major fundraiser for Hillary Clinton. (For some reason, I suddenly feel overwhelming sympathy for Sen. Clinton.)
After Obama beat Clinton in the Democratic primary, Lady de Rothschild was probably like, "Boo-hoo, my candidate lost, waah waah, nothing ever goes my way! Jeeves, please lower me into my diamond bathtub -- which is filled with real diamonds -- and shampoo my hair with the triple-distilled tears of orphans. Also, I command you to perform a champagne enema on one of my fine Arabian stallions while I liveblog it on my solid gold typepad account. C'est tres magnificique! (sp?)"
In a display of the trenchant policy analysis that has made her famous, Madame Lady Lynn Forest Whittaker de Rothschild von Pooter explained her McCain endorsement by saying of Obama:
"Frankly, I don't like him."
(As an Obama supporter, I would humbly request that Ladyboo Lynn de Forester von Chili Con Carne travel around the country, greeting voters and announcing that she doesn't like Barack Obama. Please don't forget to wear one of those floofy, flouncey scarves that you can buy at the MoMA store, and also please don't forget to sneer at everyone. May I also request that you wear all your jewels at once?)
I'm sure Obama will lose a lot of sleep over this. I know he was craving the endorsement. After all, we're talking about Baroness Lassie Lynn de von Forester d'el der McRothschild von de Beers VIII, the type of lady every American can relate to and wants to be friends with and definitely doesn't laugh at as soon as she turns her back (to check on her portfolio of private planets she owns).
Maybe now she and Cindy McCain can go shopping together and buy jewels at Cartier and be all like, "Ooh girl, that gem looks so good on your earlobe!" or whatever it is stupid rich old ladies do all day.

Out of curiosity, is she aware that most of the 2 million and a half Americans who sent money to Obama campaign are actually working Americans? I do not get it. Why are they saying that Obama cannot connect with the working Americans? I just do not get it.
Rothschild is not in the "middle class", as Biden puts it. Many democrats are not in the "middle class" and the majority who do qualify as middle class do not think of themselves as "middle class". The term is demeaning yet Biden continues to use it over and over in every speech he gives. Those with money find the term insulting. If I hear Joe Biden use the term one more time, I too will pull a Rothschild. I probably won't vote for McCain but I certainly will sit home on election day. Why is being called middle class insulting to you? What will be really insulting is if the middle class has to bear the brunt of this big fat war debt we have. Then you will know you are middle class if you are in that income bracket. I don't believe being called middle class is the reason you are going to stay home on election day (as irresponsible as that is). I think you have some other issue. Joe Biden is a wonderful choice for the vice presidency. You need to watch the conversation between Joe and Hillary Clinton re legislation that supports women that will be overturned or not pursued if McCain/Palin get into office. And I'm not only talking about Roe vs. Wade.

I'm a diehard Democrat and support Obama but I am about to pull a Rothschild if I hear Joe Biden say "middle class" one more time. Biden seems to think all Democrats are "middle class" and that he is somehow the champion and lord of the middle class. News flash Joe, even the middle class finds being referred to as the "middle class" demeaning. Those of us who do have money find the term insulting. Erm... I think his point is that the American Middle Class has been gutted for the past 7 years to the benefit of a well-heeled few. And he's right. The "middle class" is shrinking as the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. That's true across every quantifiable economic parameter.
That what his roots are, that's what his life still is now (see his tax returns? No $100 million grubstake from his daddy). That's why he can speak to these issues with sincerity.

Great post!!!! Why is it, I wonder, that education and intelligence have come to render one an "elitist"? Apparently these traits have become a liability for a presidential candidate (something McCain most certainly doesn't have to worry about.) But I guess, in our society, thinking with your head is considered weak while thinking with your gut is considered strong. And in this jingoist era, brute trumps brains. I would, however, remind those with that philosophy to consider the fate of the Neanderthals.
