David attained a BSc honours degree in Biotechnology a the University of Abertay then, in 1996, graduated from the University of Manchester Department of Medicine with an MSc in Cell & Molecular Biology. Since his return to Scotland in 1997, he has experienced difficulty in securing employment opportunities, often as a direct result of his disability. After several years of unemployment he turned his hand to writing.

David began writing for the national press on aspects of disability in contemporary society where he published many opinion pieces as well as getting a few commissions. He now writes a cycling blog and manages a cycling community on Facebook.

Sport has taken an increasingly large place in David’s life. He is a keen cyclist and skier and plays an active role in his local Edinburgh Clubs. David cycles a few days a week and trains at a local gym, and has made several skiing trips to the French Alps. He is hoping to compete in some Para-cycling races against other disabled people in the coming season.
When he is not cycling, David enjoys baking, looking at art, playing the violin and meeting friend in coffee shops.
