Jerry Adler has a rundown on climate change in this year's presidential campaign. Somewhat miraculously for a mainstream publication like Newsweek, it's pretty good.
This is a good point:
So, ironically, McCain -- with a voting record that would put him at the bottom of the heap among Democrats -- is sometimes perceived as more passionate about the environment than his Democratic opponents, whose objectively much stronger records are viewed as a matter of party orthodoxy.
I'll just say that the disparity between the way McCain is "perceived" and the reality of his record and positions is what's sustaining his entire campaign. If the press stops kissing his ass perceiving him in a way at odds with the reality of his governance, I suspect his support will dwindle.

He suggested that there was no one "good" source of energy. Each region of the country has different ways to generate energy, geothermal, hydro, wind or solar being more plentiful in some areas than others. The point is, McCain, being from Arizona, COULD be a strong proponent of Solar research and implementation, if he was really a "green" supporter. As it is, he simply wants to protect the nuclear program AZ already has in place- even though nuclear uses a TREMENDOUS amount of water, which is obviously not very plentiful in Arizona, versus the sun, which of course is in abundance. I agree with you Dave, McCain is being sainted by a media who is growing restless with the Democratic infighting.
