David Schrader is an independent writer/producer whose first film NoHo (1995) became something of an underground favorite… and I mean really underground, culminating with a scintillating two week run at Laemmle’s Sunset 5.


With his sometimes-writing partner, Christy Stratton (King of the Hill), he wrote the well-received feature specs Smart Girl Dorm and Scout’s Honor. Their collaboration on 2000’s Being Ozzy Osbourne, a short spoof of Being John Malkovich he co-wrote, starred in, and directed, was featured on Good Day LA, KROQ’s Kevin & Bean Show, and IFILM. Preceding Ozzy’s cultural re-emergence by two years, it received raves from The New Times and the Dallas Morning News, and was highlighted at the North by Northwest Festival. No less an authority than Spike Jonze called it “The best spoof by far,” at that year’s Independent Spirit Awards.


David is a reformed stand-up who performed often at The Ice House and The Comedy Store. He studied improv and sketch comedy at bang! studios in Hollywood. Some of his original scripts, such as Stalin: The Early Years and Still Cannonball Running have won him shining, yet uncompensated admiration. In addition to writing and directing short films (Little League Jesus), he co-wrote, produced, and directed the 2004 feature film Bloodline, and recently produced Shadow People, another feature soon to receive distribution.
