SIC Shingerview: Jack Conte, Musician, CrowdFunder

One of the most unique people that I met at the Seattle Interactive Conference was Jack Conte. Jack is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, entrepreneur, and filmmaker, and he started a crowd-funding platform, Patreon.

"The only reason why a company like Patreon works is because of transparency, being open with people and telling them what's going on, and having them support you," he said. Jack talks about the differences between his platform and one like Kickstarter. With Kickstarter, entrepreneurs need money upfront for a big project; whereas with Patreon, artists get paid per piece of content they create on the web.

Watch as Jack and I also talk about brands being the new patrons of art, his music, and the role of technology in music.
