Tom Lehrer once wrote a song, "The Folk Song Army," that mocked protest singers with the words
Remember the war against Franco? That's the kind where each of us belongs. Though he may have won all the battles, We had all the good songs.
Well, it may be that this year winning and having the best songs have finally come together.
While prowling the Internet for songs about Barack Obama, I was impressed by the variety of musical genres that have taken to the Democratic candidate. So I have put together my 11 favorite songs about Obama.
To quote Tom Lehrer again:
Guitars are the weapons we bring To the fight against poverty, war, and injustice. Ready! Aim! Sing!
Barack for Swing Voters (Will Galison and his Orchestra)
Country Obama (Toby Keith)
Barack Rap (MC Yogi)
Norteño Obama (Los Dorados Del Norte)
Irish O'Bama
Oui, on peut: Zydeco Obama
Reggae Barack Obama (Cocoa Tea)
Mariachi Obama
Calypso Barack (Mighty Sparrow)
This one is long, but the lyrics cover most of the major issues.
Obamanos: Salsa Obama (José Conde y Ola Fresca)
Last, but most definitely not least...
Bollywood Barack

I love the Cocoa Tea song! I wish the Irish version could've been written using an authentic Irish song. I still think "American Prayer" is the best.
The Hush Sound - We Believe (In Barack Obama)
He loves you and he loves your mama!

The Mighty Sparrow's "Barack The Magnificent" is just magnificent! Well written, well sung, inspirational, just beautiful. You also need to find the Irish "O'Bama" which is just fantastic.
I am so happy that we have such an inspirational leader. Wonderful!
This is BY FAR the best Obama song out there - and it's sales have consistently been #2 (right behind Obama Girl's tune) on iTunes' "OBAMA CHARTS" since it was released this summer ... The video intro of Barack's speech is a little long (1 minute), but once it kicks in, POW! Funny AND inspiring!

Lemme hip you to the best Obama-inspired song I've heard. "Si Se Puede," by the South Florida Cuban punk band Guajiro:

They only have the English version on YouTube. It's pretty good, but I actually prefer the original Spanish version. Give it a listen, and then tell me that shouldn't have been in any list of best Obama songs!
Cheers,
Dan
HILARIOUS!
I like Salsa Obama and MC Yogi the best. They were great!
Great songs, but you don't have my very favorite, a moving, beautiful music video called "American Prayer." It's by Dave Stewart and I'll bet you can't watch it without at least a tear. So inspiring!

No heavy metal tunes for Obama? Gotta change that.
"TakIin' it back with Barack, Jack" rules!
MC Yogi's is great.
David, what a wonderful music video collection you put together. I just had to get up and dance around grinning and signing to the music.
Thank you very much.
My very favorites are Will Galison and his Orchestra and (never thought I'd say this) the rap one.
I think it's fantastic that such a wide variety of people can unite for Obama. He is the true uniter.
