"New Orleans Stomp": A Winning Super Bowl Playlist for the New Orleans Saints

What's Your Reaction:

Yes, We Could.

That's what we learned at this year's Super Bowl -- that and the fact that the great Roger Daltrey is increasingly beginning to resemble the lovely Dyan Cannon. Here is one winning playlist for the New Orleans Saints who showed guts and grace as they triumphed over the Colts. Please add your own musical flavors to this celebratory gumbo:

NEW ORLEANS STOMP - Louis Armstrong
NEW ORLEANS - Gary U.S. Bonds
I WISH I WAS IN NEW ORLEANS (IN THE NINTH WARD) - Tom Waits
THE SAINTS ARE COMING - U2 & Green Day
WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN - Rebirth Brass Band
NEW ORLEANS - Cowboy Mouth
LOUISIANA - Randy Newman
THE BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS - Johnny Horton
CITY OF NEW ORLEANS - Steve Goodman
MARDI GRAS IN NEW ORLEANS - Fats Domino
GOIN' BACK TO NEW ORLEANS - Dr. John
NEW ORLEANS STUNNA - Juvenile
NEW ORLEANS SHOUT - King Oliver
YES WE CAN CAN - Allen Toussaint

I can't think of any of their songs that contain "New Orleans" or "Saints" in their lyrics, but the Meters and the Neville Brothers just have to be represented somehow.

The Church - Louisiana
The Animals - House of the Rising Sun
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile
Elvis - New Orleans, King Creole
Chuck Berry - Johnny B Goode

Love the version of "The Saints Are Coming" by U2 and Green Day. And all the other selections...it would make for a mighty mighty radio show!

What exactly are you saying about my mother?
Oh, you mean that song from Graceland. In that case, thanks.

I am from New Orleans and this was the BEST super bowl ever. Most of them are boring but this was intense as it gets. Congrats to the whole team it was just beautiful to watch!

After starting my radio show this morning with "Battle Of New Orleans", played J. J. Cale's "Call Me The Breeze" for Drew. Great game!

That's funny -- I had that song in mind, but in the Skynrd cover version.

Sounds like a great show

Great list, though I would got with Professor Longhair's original version of "Mardi Gras in New Orleans" and put in Fat's Domino's "Walking to New Orleans" to represent the fat man. And the Animal's "House of the Rising Sun" is a great "down in New Olreans" song.

No "Go to the Mardi Gras", by Professor Longhair? That'll have you tapping your toes.

Wow! I am not a football fan per se but I watched this because of New Orleans and Katrina. And it was a great game. So today is A Beautiful Day (U2) for New Orleans and the Saints and they must be Walking On Sunshine (Katrina and The Waves).

I'm gonna get in my car tomorrow
And drive three days and nights
I'm gonna drive through sleet and snow
Till I see those river lights.
I'm gonna sleep on someone's floor
With a smile on my face
Wild, wild horses couldn't keep me away!
Gonna wake up Mardi Gras morning
Down in New Orleans
I'm gonna act a fool all day long
And dance with the Zulu King
If I have to crawl across Texas
On my hands and knees
Gonna wake up Mardi Gras morning
Down in New Orleans!

From "Mardi Gras Morning" by the inimitable Steve Conn...and anything by slideco guitar master Sonny Landreth ! "C'est chaud", "Zydecoldsmobile" and "Congo Square" come to mind!

I bet big on New Orleans; after the miraculous onside kick,
and Tracy Porter's interception -- these tunes began dancing
in my head...

THE MONEY SONG -- Monty Python:

There is nothing quite as wonderful as money
There is nothing quite as beautiful as cash
Some people say it’s folly
But I’d rather have the lolly
With money you can make a splash

and...

TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN -- Steve Miller Band
BIG MONEY -- Rush
SILVER AND GOLD -- U2
MONEY FOR NOTHING -- Dire Straights
THE GAMBLER -- Kenny Rogers
