The Magic of the Destination Wedding

I was away recently. I got married in Turks & Caicos, which is absolutely one of the most beautiful places in the world. It was amazing, it really was.

It was amazing to be able to go away and really have the wedding be just about us. So many people get married and, although it starts out being about a celebration between two people, it ends up being about everyone else.

You have to invite your mom's friend, the one who made you peanut butter and jelly sandwiches when you were a kid. You haven't seen her in forty years, but you have to invite her because your mom promised her that if you ever got married that she would be there.

All of a sudden, the wedding turns into three weeks of craziness. You have to pick people up from the airport. You have to figure out where people are going to stay. Your cousin is sick, and you don't know if he is going to be able to be there.
The wedding becomes less and less about the two of you, and more and more about your guests.

The reason why honeymoons should last longer than two weeks, is because you need the first week just to recover from the crazy and hectic side of preparing for the wedding. It's not until the second week that you actually get to indulge each other.

My wife and I decided that we were just going to skip the hectic and crazy part of the wedding process, and just have the wedding be about us. So we went to Turks & Caicos, one of the most beautiful islands in the world, to get married. It has the most incredible, pristine beaches.

Before the wedding, we hooked up with a guy named Val from www.discovertci.com, and he set us up with some amazing things to do. We had a tour of Little Caicos which is a deserted island.

We ate at a restaurant called Opus, which was so romantic. It is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to in my life. It had probably the best fish that I've ever had.

So, if you ever go to Opas, give Erica a big hug for me, she was an amazing waitress!

We wanted to make it a very special twelve days on Turks & Caicos, and Val hooked us up with a lot of different things to do.

We ended up getting married on the beach. It was beautiful.

My best man was a guy I met at the pool three hours earlier. He actually arrived late after the vows, and he apologized. He had to get his beer out of his room before he made it down to the beach.

We got married in front of nobody but each other, just us staring into each other's eyes. It was absolutely beautiful.

We had a nice Pastor named Pastor Padmore who took our vows and married us. We also hired a great photographer. We made the day and night all about us.

So if you are thinking about getting married, or about just renewing your vows, make it all about the two of you. If you're getting married, and it's becoming really crazy with everything becoming all about your families instead of you, then think about a destination wedding.

Think about checking out Turks & Caicos. It's the perfect place to get married or to renew your vows. A wedding is meant to be a celebration of the love between two people, and a destination wedding is the perfect way to honor that. You'll make memories that will last forever.

I'll never forget our wedding there, just the two of us. I'll never forget looking into my wife's eyes as the tears rolled out of her eyes. I'll never forget listening to the Caribbean in the background, and seeing the waves and sun setting over the water. Most of all, I'll never forget the beautiful moment we shared on one of the world's most beautiful beaches on Turks & Caicos.

I won't have the crazy in-law story or the story about the best man who's speech went on four minutes too long. It was just the two of us getting married.

So, if you're thinking about getting married, or you want to renew your vows, then check out Turks & Caicos. It's a beautiful place to be. Email me if you're interested and I'll give you some really good tips.
