Dawn Cooke is an artist and entrepreneur from the Detroit area. She has been tattooing professionally since 2000 and is part owner of Depot Town Tattoo in Ypsilanti MI and Harlequin Tattoo in Hamtramck MI. Dawn graduated from College for Creative Studies in Detroit in 2011 with a BFA and continues to be active in the art scene in Detroit. She has completed some post graduate work in psychology and finds the study fascinating. As a blog writer for Tattoo Artist magazine her audience is composed of the elite of the tattoo community including collectors and tattoo artists all over the world. She writes from the perspective of a female in tattooing and as a mother. She is passionate about the tattoo culture, the craft and trade of tattooing. She is also a painter who paints portraits of animals and people in somewhat surreal landscapes. She believes her work is about her interactions and relationships from a phenomenological perspective, in both, her tattoo work and her fine art work. She believes the image itself is it's own visual language that speaks to us as human beings in a unique and powerful way.
