Author of This Is Not the Career I Ordered, Caroline Dowd-Higgins is a nationally-recognized career coach who empowers women to enjoy their lives and careers. As a national speaker, she's a passionate advocate for women, giving them tangible tips and tools they can utilize to craft their career -- and their future.
She's been featured in places like the Wall Street Journal, CNN Money, More magazine, and is a contributor for The Huffington Post.
I first met Caroline at the Indiana Governor's Conference for Women, and was blown away by her energy -- as well as the tips and tools she has to help move women into action that works.
In today's Jam Session, Caroline and I jammed on how women can empower themselves to deal with bad bosses. We riff on being clear about your career goals, how upper-level management and bosses contribute "brain drain" and what they can do to retain great talent. (With an improving economy, top talent is free to make moves they've not been able to make before.) We talk about the importance of knowing your professional values and matching them to your employer (or vocation), the importance of the ask, and the way to approach failure (even in politics).
We dig in on women in their 40s and how markedly different it looks than we thought it would (and how much better than we imagined). We hit the one thing men take for granted in their careers, that women often struggle with... and ways we can help women of the next generation.
We even hit how to address "impostor syndrome."
Caroline also happens to have studied Opera at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. As a fellow performer, we even talk about what skills that training taught us that translates in business and life.
If two soul sisters took a break during a jam session to catch up over coffee to talk about entrepreneurship and meaningful work, this is what it'd sound like. Chill out, hang out and join us for a while.
Jam Sessions is an interview series hosted by Deb Owen, founder of Percorso, at debjowen.com intended to enlighten, empower, and equip you in your life and business. Interviews cover a range of topics from entrepreneurship, leadership, women's empowerment and conscious capitalism, to inspiring individuals who've overcome amazing obstacles in their lives. Inspiration + strategy + lots of love.
