Dear Denver: I Am Having a Bit of a Rough Week. Where Can I go to LOL?

"They" say that laughter is the best medicine, and for rizzle, I think "they" are right.

It never fails; I am having a lame week, or I'm stressed out about money, or feeling blah about work, and then I go see some stand-up ha-ha and all is right in the world.

If you don't know, the comedy scene in Denver is blowin' (the funk) up. And what's good about this, is that pretty much no matter what night of the week it is, you can go see some comedy, and good comedy at that. And a bunch of it is free! Free rhymes with me, yo. Peep the list below to see what's going on in terms of comedy in this town and shoot me an email or leave a comment if you know of a night that's missing.

(In addition to these reoccurring events, check-out the special events at Voodoo Comedy Playhouse and Comedy Works for even more opps to ROFL.)

Open Mic at the Lion's Lair: Every Monday, starting at 10 p.m.; free. Open mic comedy on Colfax, hosted by Sam Tallent and Roger Norquist. A Denver classic.

Open Mic at the Park Hous: Every Tuesday, starting at 9:30 p.m.; free. Open mic comedy on Colfax, hosted by Bobby Crane. A little earlier than some of the other open mics, for all of you office rats.

Open Mic at the Squire Lounge: Every Tuesday, starting at 11 p.m.; free. Open mic comedy on Colfax, hosted by Sam Tallent. The last time I went to this event, a hobo set a trashcan on fire in front of the front door #'nuffsaid

Too Much Fun! at the Deer Pile: Every Wednesday, starting at 10:30 p.m.; free. The Fine Gentleman's Club are no joke. (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!) JK. But they seriously are some hard-working comics. And they are smart and original and oh so funny. If you missed the article, read more about this troupe via this Westword's cover story.

Greater Than Social Club at Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret: Every first Wednesday of the month, starting at 8 p.m.; $10 cover. The Greater Than Social Club is my most favorite monthly series. Combining music and comedy in Lannie's basement cabaret setting, this event will make you straight-up pumped to be a Denverite. Buy your tix ahead of time to guarantee yourself a good seat, and the whole show is over by 10pm so quit being such a baby already.

Delusions of Randeur at the Beauty Bar: Every third Wednesday of the month, starting at 8 p.m.; free. More free comedy in Cap Hill! Hosted by Kristin Rand and Randy M. Washington.

SubComedy at SubCulture Every third Wednesday of the month, starting at 7:30 p.m.; free. Even more free comedy in Cap Hill! (And this one comes with an entire sandwich menu!) Hosted by Bradley Galli.

Three Course Comedy at the Deer Pile: Every fourth Thursday of the month, starting at 8 p.m.; free. 3 Course Comedy is a monthly food-based comedy showcase hosted by Adrian P. Mesa and Eric Henderson. Each month three comics bring food (appetizer, main course, dessert -- all vegetarian) and food-based material. Each show is recorded and released as a podcast available on iTunes and at

King Me! Comedy Happy Hour at 3 King's Tavern: Every Friday, from 6 - 8 p.m.; free. Open mic hosted by Nathan Lund. Start your weekend off right with drink specials and laughing, and do it in one of Denver's coolest hoods.

The Grawlix at the Bug Theater: The last Friday of every month, starting at 10 p.m.; $10 cover. Super funny super team delivers stand-up, sketch comedy, and hilariously polished videos at the Bug. Visiting comics round out the bill during this monthly hipster laugh fest.

Mile High Sci Fi at the SIE FilmCenter: Last Friday & Saturday of the month, starting at 9:30 p.m.; $10 - $12. Once a month, a really bad movie is shown and local comedians make fun of it, a la Mystery Science Theater 3000. Clever and inappropriate, with some of the best audio gags [insert boner noise here] I've ever heard... Plus a full bar -- score. Hosted by Harrison Rains, with additional appearances by Chris Charpentier, Kevin O'Brien, Sam Tallent, and Nathan Lund. (Mile High Sci Fi also happens occasionally at the Alamo Drafthouse.)

The Fine Gentleman's Club Presents at the Meadowlark: Third Saturday of the month, starting at 9 p.m.; no cover. Another night of comedy paired with music, in the intimate basement of the Meadowlark.

Text-A-Saurus at the Bug Theater: The last Saturday of every month, starting at 10:30 p.m.; $10 cover. Hosted by Deacon Gray. The first part of each show features regular stand-up from a couple of comedians. The second part is improv, and it's based on text-message topics that audience members send during the first part of the show. Afterwards, the comics reconvene on stage to quickly motor through all the unused topics from the night.

Open Mic at Kinga's Lounge: Every Sunday, starting at 8 p.m.; free. Comedy, beers, pierogies, and a somewhat Amish start time of 8 p.m. - score.

Propaganda at Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret: The last Sunday of every month, starting at 8 p.m.; free. Free comedy and free pizza, wtf? Bring a few bucks to nurse a drink while listening to local and national talent in the coolest comedy club setting you've probably ever been to. Pick-up a free Sexy Pizza slice card on your way out and end your weekend feeling like a straight-up baller.

Arguments & Grievances at the Vine Street Pub: Every third Sunday of the month, starting at 10 p.m.; free. Come hear some of Denver's best comics (and the occasional visitor), debate such important topics as Clowns vs. Mimes, Road Trips vs Acid Trips, and Kid vs. Play. Hosted by Kevin O'Brien.
