Dee Rees' debut feature, Pariah, premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and won several accolades including the John Casavettes Award at the 2012 Independent Spirit Awards; “Breakthrough Director” at the 2011 IFP Awards; and the GLAAD Media and NAACP Image Awards. Dee is an alumna of New York University’s graduate film program and a Sundance Screenwriting & Directing Lab Fellow.

She has been named a United States Artist Fellow for her work and is currently in development on a new HBO television series as well as an adaptation Toni Morrison's latest novel, Home. Dee interned on Spike Lee’s films When The Levees Broke and Inside Man and earned an MBA from Florida A&M University.
