Demetria Irwin is a Detroit native and a New York City-based freelance writer/editor. Formerly the managing editor of, Demetria has also been a staff writer for the New York Amsterdam News and worked as an urban planner for the city of New York. Love, hair, pop culture, politics and real estate are just some of the topics she has explored for a wide range of publications. She received her bachelor's degree in English and her master's degree in urban planning from the University of Michigan. Demetria is a proud mentor in the awesome organization Girls Write Now.
