Deni Carise, Ph.D. is chief clinical officer of Phoenix House, a leading nonprofit provider of substance abuse prevention and treatment services—helping close to 7,500 men, women, and teens each day at more 150 programs in 10 states. She also writes about addiction-related headlines on Phoenix House's "Our Perspectives" blog.

Dr. Carise joins Phoenix House from the Philadelphia-based Treatment Research Institute. As TRI’s Director of Treatment Systems Section since 1998, she made significant advances in the quality of substance abuse treatment through the development, application, and research of new interventions, systems, and technologies.

She has worked extensively with treatment providers in Nigeria, Mexico, Thailand, Egypt, Greece, Singapore, Brazil, and China to help develop national systems that integrate scientifically-validated tools into clinical treatment delivery. She is also a consultant, trainer and advisor for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

After earning both her Bachelor’s Degree and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Hahnemann (now Drexel) University, she interned at Homewood (part of the Johns Hopkins Health system) and Union Memorial hospitals in behavioral medicine. She was later a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for Studies of Addiction at the University of Pennsylvania, where she now serves as an adjunct clinical professor.http://www.phoenixhouse.org
