D.F. Paulhala received B.S. and M.A. degrees in Economics from the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Washington. As a college and university professor, he has taught macroeconomic and microeconomic theory at the principles, intermediate and graduate level, monetary theory and policy, environmental economics, and special issues courses. Other books include An American Child’s Portfolio, The Art of Saving and Investing for Children; The Pursuit of Happiness, An Economist’s View, and a children’s book grounded in the principle of opportunity cost.

I believe the following plan should be implemented immediately if America is to avoid a long-lasting recession or even a depression.

The Plan:
The US government offers every US citizen a 30-year mortgage at a 1½ % fixed rate of interest.
