Dennis Scholl joined Knight Foundation in 2009 and is responsible for the foundation's initiatives in South Florida, including the Knight Arts Challenge. He took on an additional role in April 2010 as vice president/arts to develop a national cultural arts program for Knight.

Scholl has had a long involvement in philanthropy in the visual arts. Over the last dozen years, he was the founding chair of the Guggenheim Photography Committee, the Tate Modern American Acquisitions Committee and the Miami Art Museum Collectors Council. All of these groups raised funds and acquired contemporary art for their respective museums.

He has also been a board member of the Aspen Art Museum, the North Miami Museum of Contemporary Art and the chair of Locust Projects, an alternative art space.

Scholl has been a contemporary art collector for over 30 years. He is a founder of Betts & Scholl, which makes wine in France, Italy, Australia and Napa Valley. He is also the cultural correspondent for Plum TV, a resort-based television network with eight stations across the U.S. Previously he was a practicing attorney and a C.P.A.

Scholl graduated from Florida International University with a bachelor of business administration and the University of Miami with a juris doctor degree.
