I met this woman early one morning last summer at the Starbucks near our office. She walked up with her huge, hobbling dog, handed me the leash, went inside, came back out a few minutes later, and fed him a maple scone. She told me that he is seventeen years old and loves scones, so she gets him one every day. "At his age, he can have whatever he wants," she told me. I have not seen her recently and wonder whether her dog has died.

Awww. However, this dog is clearly overweight and the dog "lover" is only hastening his death. As an extreme example, I am 56 and love vodka but I know that if indulged myself, I too would become hobbled and die before my time. I also doubt that my wife would further indulge me by saying "he's 56 so he should be able to have anything he wants."
Believe it or not, the best love you can show for your pet is through strict diet control over which we have total control.
I can only imagine how the typical human's health would benefit from the dedicated consumption of truly healthful food and clean, pure water--both of which you can indulge to your hearts content.
smiling.
