The Slow Food Movement is gaining momentum, and I have greatly enjoyed the revival of farmers markets around the Washington, DC area.
I ran into a guy a while back who represents the best of what you might call the "Slow Drink" movement. He has started a small business roasting his own coffee in Charles Town, WV. Largely self-taught, he is producing what I have found to be some of the best coffee in the world.
Check him out at The Black Dog Coffee Company.

Actually, there are two new ones that I really like - at 14th and U NW started by Robin Schuster and another over in the Bloomingdale neighborhood near the Big Bear Cafe at R and 1st St NW. Check them out - they are fledgling but good.

There has not been a "revival" of farm markets in DC. The existing farm markets are still there and now Bernie Prince has created, not revived, upmarket, overpriced, organic markets located carefully based on upscale demographics and lately several entrepreneur upstarts have created their own new markets in neighborhoods overlooked by Prince.
