Derrick Clifton served as an award-winning weekly social issues columnist and opinion editor for The Daily Northwestern for two years prior to his 2012 graduation from Northwestern University's School of Communication. Currently, Derrick is an M.S. candidate at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, focusing on interactive publishing and magazine writing.

Derrick and his works have appeared in various publications and blogs, such as National Review Online, Gawker, The Windy City Times, Thought Catalog, The Good Men Project, In Our Words and Northwestern Magazine, which named him one of eight Class of 2012 "Seniors to Watch."
