The 9 Countries With The Worst Cuisine In The World (PHOTOS)

What's Your Reaction:

Hard to imagine why anyone might take issue with reheated kidney pie or black breakfast sausage made from pig's blood and fat, but it seems the Brits have claimed the title of World's Worst National Cuisine. And you beat us by a comfortable 14-point margin! Well done, old chaps. Maybe you can't take us at soccer, but we were apparently out of your league when it came to preparing crap food. Evidently one Gordon Ramsey is not enough. The judging was done online by over 2000 people from over 80 countries who took the Titanic Awards survey. Check out the other countries that made the list. Chinese food in China is pretty disgusting, but NOBODY beats the Philippines when it comes to the worst most disgusting, dog -food looking cuisine in the world. Ever had balut? puke all over myself. Half hatched egg.

Wow, clearly these people haven't spent enough time eating in Africa. They would YEARN for those (granted, quite horrid) midwestern casseroles and jello molds after drinking cow's blood or eating goat intestine for a week.

Really? That's what they eat in all 53 countries in Africa?

Indeed. As an African, I would also like to know.

What I do not get is China coming in 3rd in gastronomy. You talk to the most influential cooks on the Planet and there are 3 countries that vie for first place for their influence! Italian, French and Chinese are the three cuisines that have most changed our eating habits since the 50s. and they are the major influence that have fashioned our eating habits. Not saying that it was a faulty poll, rather just amazed so many feel like this.

Yeah, but similarly, the US and England have some of the top restaurants in the world and modern French cuisine is much influenced by the Alice Waters set in California. In most of China, the food is pretty darn bad by Western standards, due to substandard ingredients as much as anything else. (I'm not talking about Shanghai/Beijing/Shenzen, etc, but the vast majority of China isn't like them). I'd argue that there are only two great cuisines in the world (French and Chinese, though my personal preference is the humbler Italian), but that still doesn't mean the food in that cuisine is generally fantastic. The Chinese food in the US is nothing like what you get in most of China (including the major cities).

This article is stupid. You could go to any country on earth, find somewhere crappy and take a photo of it.
I've had great food in Ireland, England, Wales, Sweden, Germany and every country in Europe I've visited.
And the sea food in the US is great - try cape Cod for example.
Lame article based upon stupid stereotypes - probably by people who have never tried food in any of these countries.

I found restaurants in Saudi Arabia to be consistently bad. The locals raved about them, but even expensive restaurants served horrible stuff. Big portions, over-cooked vegetables, few spices, and bland. Hard to find fresh salads.

This reminds me of when I was on Germany and BEGGED the french fry vendor not to put mayonnaise on my fries--he looked at me like I was crazy.

Is that regional? I love dipping fries in mayo, but even fellow Americans look at me like "eeew". I noticed there never from my neck of the woods and figured it was a regional thing.

if youve ever had well prepared macaroni and cheese and some sweet potatoe pie, you would have put US cuisine a bit better in the rankings.

Me too. What is that first thing? A cheesy baked potato? I have no idea.

Cheesy baked potato, exactly the first thing that came to my mind! But I suspect the yellow
stuff isn't really cheese, and it's hiding something much less benign than a potato.

I disagree with the Irish food. When I visited it was amazing.
03:53 PM on 06/22/2010
Yeah I had great food in Dublin. I also tried a Sunday Roast in England, with Yorkshire pudding. It was great. Bit of a stereotype this list I think.
11:29 PM on 06/30/2010
I agree with Peg Taylor. I go to Ireland often and the food there is fabulous. Granted the "full Irish breakfast" is a bit fat laden, but other than that, fresh wild salmon, to die for, as experienced in Baltimore, off the coast of Cork.

pictures with no description of the items being shown is not very enlightening - i rather found traditional chilean food rather blah, but one can usually find something they like no matter where they are in the world - unless you are really remote -
