The Story of the Soul of Humanity

The story of humanity's soul has taken us from living in caves to walking on the moon. But there is much more of this story to be told. For one day, we will travel beyond our own tiny spot in the cosmos and begin yet another new adventure of discovery.

In my last post, "The Story of the New Humanity," I offered some thoughts about the challenges and opportunities we, as a species, face in this time of great transition, here at the beginning of a new millennium.

"Say not, 'I have found the truth,' but rather, 'I have found a truth.'" -- Kahlil Gibran

In the spirit of the Gibran quote, I offer these thoughts, not as the truth, but rather as a way to view and be with the collective experience of being a human on planet Earth in this particular timeframe we inhabit. My perspective is neither religious nor political, but comes more from an esoteric approach, which concerns itself with the science of the soul and the cosmos. Determine for yourself whether or not these ideas resonate for you. They are not the truth. They are a truth.

I offer the perspective shared by many of the great teachers, philosophers and scientists of our time, that humanity is in the midst of a massive transition, a collective transformation that is taking place at the level of consciousness.

We are in that place in the transformation process where our old ways of thinking, based on a limited view and understanding of our nature, are giving way to a more expansive understanding of who we are and of the unmet potential that awaits our discovery. At the same time this evolutionary process is unfolding, these new possibilities are being met by a fierce resistance rising up from the old ways still deeply embedded in our collective consciousness, and a battle is taking place between the forces of change and the forces of stagnation.

This is where we find ourselves as a species today, on this so-called "battlefield" of consciousness. What it looks like at the collective level is exactly what is going on at the individual level. You and I are waging this exact same war within ourselves. That is, the battle of our experience of duality, being called to move in the direction of our higher consciousness and the experience of unity, and being pulled in the direction of our lower consciousness, which produces the experience of separation.

In the scheme of things, it appears that the stronger the call is toward unity, the stronger the resistance of the shadow, the aspect of self and humanity that has yet to be exposed to the light of conscious awareness. We are living in the time of a fierce conflict between these two forces.

Chaos and conflict always precede change. And we know which way it will go, eventually. It's just a matter of time as the old gives way to the new and in time, the new once again becomes the old, which will give way to yet another new. And so it goes. And thus, over time, humanity evolves, ultimately in the direction of expansiveness, even as it appears to contract during certain periods, the overall direction is always toward upward expansion.

This is the story of the soul of humanity, and we each are a piece of it. You and I are writing this story with every choice we make. We make choices that either move us in the direction of our higher consciousness and the experience of unity, or we're making choices that affirm and perpetuate our experience of separation.

As you witness your own life unfolding and begin to sense a greater awareness of your own unmet potential, and as you open and expand to embrace your own higher consciousness and live into that potential, you contribute to the evolution of humanity's soul.

In that we are all connected, and with today's technology we know this in ways our ancestors never could know, we can see that our collective choices create a ripple effect that reaches far beyond our personal lives. What would happen if each of us were aware of how our choices impact the whole of humanity? Would it change the way you live? If you knew that future generations would either suffer or rejoice because of the choices we're making today, would your choices be impacted by this knowledge?

"Say not, 'I have found the path of the soul.' Say rather, 'I have met the soul walking upon my path.' For the soul walks upon all paths. The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed. The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals." -- Kahlil Gibran

We each have a thread to weave into the tapestry of our collective soul story. Your thread or mine may seem small and insignificant in the larger scheme of things, just as we appear to be in the cosmos. But absent the thread that we each bring, the tapestry is incomplete. At the same time that we are all one, we are each a unique facet of the whole. There is no other thread exactly like yours. There is no other human whose soul story is exactly like yours.

The story of humanity's soul has taken us from living in caves to walking on the moon. But there is much more of this story to be told. For one day, we will travel beyond our own tiny spot in the cosmos and begin yet another new adventure of discovery. We will reach beyond anything we can begin to imagine in 2013 and realize how small we are and how little we know, and who knows? Just maybe we'll be initiated into a greater community of cosmic beings who've been patiently awaiting our "discovery" of them. Do you really believe we're out here in the universe all by ourselves?
