The pressure to be thin has never been greater. Unfortunately our daily food choices have made this goal practically impossible!
The average American, adult and child alike, are bombarded with corn-fed beef, high fructose corn syrup, refined sugars and starches and dangerous transfats. Even that ubiquitous jar of peanut butter is guilty, harboring a hefty dose of hydrogenated fats.
The trouble with these foods is they sabotage even the most dedicated dieter because they encourage the storage of body fat by being pro-inflammatory. Maintaining a healthy weight is not about your daily intake of fat -- and it is not about cutting out the carbs. It is about something most people have no conception of -- the connection between inflammation and body fat (and the fact that one is never present without the other).
As the August 2009 issue of Allure reports in "The fashion insiders diet," people, especially women, in this industry are basically starving themselves. This is not new -- the pressure on celebrities is extreme. In fact, many extremely talented and beautiful women and men have suffered from eating disorders, which they have fortunately overcome and shared their story to help others. These include Kate Beckinsale, Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn, Kate Winslet, Elton John and Jessica Alba.
Starvation diets mean that you not only lose body fat, you lose muscle mass. On the other hand, the incredible beauty and power of the anti-inflammatory diet leads to a rapid loss of body fat without losing the muscle mass -- a detrimental by-product seen in all other weight-reducing diets.
As many readers of my earlier books know, the original anti-inflammatory diet is both a powerful anti-aging, disease-fighting tool and the secret to clear, wrinkle-free skin. It was not specifically designed for weight loss. However, once I realized that people who needed to lose weight were rapidly losing it on this eating plan, I recognized a whole new world of potential for the overweight man or woman -- whether he or she needed to shed a mere 10 pounds or was morbidly obese. This actually inspired me to write an entire book, Dr. Perricone's Weight Loss Diet, filled with recipes, meal plans and proven tips to reduce body fat without going hungry or feeling deprived and depressed.
Follow these simple rules to shed the body fat, maintain the muscle and enjoy eating healthy, delicious food without the fear of weight gain.

Shotgun Mary, I am on a very similar diet to Dr. Perricone's,--Dr. Elizabeth Vliet's diet in her book Women, Weight and Hormones. I highly recommend you read this book. I lost 40 pounds without even adding exercise. Either Dr. Perricone's or Dr. Vliet's diet will reregulate your system and get your metabolism working efficiently so that your body will utilize what you put in it, and not store fat. Keep your serving portions to 1/2 cup per food item. The first few days are the hardest, but your stomach will quickly adjust to the smaller food amount, and you'll start seeing those pounds melt away! Get your thyroid levels checked, too--if they're too low, it's much harder to lose weight. Good luck! :)
Take up weight lifting, with some cardio on the side. Then most of you can pretty much eat what you want, and the rest won't have to cut back so much or worry. It can turn the clock back on your body years.
What is "CLA"? It's not defined in the article.
CLA is Conjugated Linoleic Acid.
Although i always encourage high metabolism types to focus on increasing their metabolism, i do usually forget to guide them how to eat. This post outlines it well. As i high metabolism type i do forget how hard it can be to lose weight. Keep at it i guess, hard work will eventually pay off.

I am 5'7 and 212 lbs and I have NEVER successfully lost any weight. I have tried absolutely everything but nothing seems to work. I know everyone says that but it seems like my metabolism is stuck. I don't know what to do. I don't over eat and I get daily exercise but apparently its not enough. Every day it seems like there's something you're supposed to eat more of and other things you should eat less of. The next day it seems to be the opposite. Why is it so hard to find good information about diet?
here is your elegantly simple answer: Eat only what Mother Nature offers, unaltered or unprocessed. Eat no sugar or refined flours. It's not how much you eat, it's what you eat. You WILL lose weight. Also, have your hormones checked. You're likely Estrogen dominant. Of course allopathic doctors won't be of any help, so avoid them. They know nothing of nutrition, generally speaking.
