America's Mad as Hell Moment

Posted: 08/10/11 05:32 PM ET

I'm mad as hell. And according to the piles and piles of responses I got after my rant, so are you. This is not a joke, trillions are being extracted from our economy by greedy bastards. And if we don't fix this problem, then we'll end up seeing what is happening in England -- uncontrolled rage-filled riots and looting -- happen here.

As Michael Tablan told his readers about my rant: "I promise you its more important than cute fucking cupcakes."

So what can you do? Well here are some action items, for starters.

1) Understand our situation, and make sure that your friends and family do as well. Our politicians and bankers play on our ignorance, since they think we won't know what they are doing. That ends now. Watch our Jobs Wanted series on rigged Trade, Taxes and Banking, and forward it to your friends and family.

2) Use your Twitter or Facebook account to be mad as hell. I've started the hashtag #ImMadAsHellBecause so people can be mad as hell in their own words. If you don't know what Twitter is or what this means, don't worry! Just go here and read what your fellow citizens are saying: #ImMadAsHellBecause

3) Call Congress and tell them NOT to pass NAFTA-style corporate trade deals with Panama, South Korea, and Colombia. The phone # for Congress is (202) 224-3121. If you are not sure who is your Representative, tell the operator you want to talk to "your House member" and give your zip code. You can find a script on what to say here: Speak Up! Take Action!

So that's a start. If you want to send me a message, use the comment section below. Or drop me an email at ImMadAsHell@dylanratigan.com.

Here are a few more or your responses.

"Worth watching. This guy's rant is probably the best thing I've heard said about the government in a very long time. I used to be really into politics a few years ago, but I've lost all faith/interest in our government because of all the dumb bullshit that's been happening the past year(s). Fuck it, I don't wanna get into it. Just watch and listen." - Where's My Key?

"Say it with me now: I'm mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take it anymore!" - nrrrd.tumblr.com

"I've been wondering for years how much it would take for the US to have a popular uprising. It always seemed like such a remote possibility, but now with student loans and the like being affected AND the rioting in England, we might be getting closer to it. :/" - The Note Desolation Plays

Nobody wants to admit how bad it is. The complexities of this mess cover up the scam.

i.e. Who know what a CDS is and why we have a $612 trillion un-capitalized CDS market. Answer: a great way to make a ton of money and be TBTF. Obviously it’s not to shore up risk if in the end it becomes sovereign debt problem.

This mess can be traced back to Jefferson. There has been a push, by banks, to create a fed and have no regulations for the last 150+ years.

They are very clear on what they want and have passed their goals down through generations.

So we are sold now on a way of doing business that was outdated in the 50’s and 60’s. Instead on admitting this they will invest in emerging markets where the age old way of doing business will sill bear profits and continue to kick the can down the road at home.

I am mad as hell.

I'm with you Dylan. I'm mad as hell too. I was mad when Nafta was enacted. Scam on the American people. Ross Perot was right - I still hear the sucking sound of US jobs being sent overseas.

The corporate/uber-rich oligarchy that owns their governmental puppets, will do exactly what the government did when unions tried to organize last century. They will have us killed. Yes, killed.

I disagree... I think they will simply have us imprisoned in order to use us to produce their consumer goods and profit from it. Welcome to the nightmare.

It's been 38-yrs. since I saw "Soylent Green" at the movie theater. Can't remember how the "nightmare'[ turns out. I kind of recall those in power provided condiments though :).

Are people really mad as hell? Do people even know what the debt ceiling debate was about? I want to see people in the National Mall do a Tahrir Square in DC. But we all know that will never happen. Give Americans their iPhone, McDonalds and HDTV and they'll sit down and shut up.

What would Studs say?

It’s not only the politicians, it’s also journalists. While watching the extraction of wealth last week, I thought about the last depression (the current mess is only a recession if you have a full time job and money in the bank). I am a student of history. FDR’s words about fear itself rang true after the ridiculous dance by congress and the reaction by the huge market manipulators.

NPR was interviewing two opinion holders, one was Russ Roberts from the Hoover Institute. Roberts was repeating essentially the same thing that Hoover said in 1930 about the role of Government in a depression. And the interviewer tacitly accepted his opinion without stating how, historically, it had been shown to be inept at helping. The thought that Herbert Hoover was giving us advice on how to handle the current depression made me mad as hell.

Great Britain is showing what happens when wealth disparity hits the tipping point and anarchy becomes a perceived viable option.

I found Dylan's speech very good. He's absolutely correct, the system is bad, there's no way this will get better as long as the system is as it is.

Quality harangue, sir ;) .

We seem to have lost the connection in this country between position or reward and actual accomplishment. Those who hold power have redefined accomplishment from "actually doing something" to "convincing as many people as possible that the power-holder is personally appealing." Like with our financial so-called system, it is a non-reality-based vapor-bubble that sucks all the air out of the room.

It's been decades of a steady diet of this vapor-bubble. But you can't change human nature, or even American nature. We WANT to do something. And, ultimately, being told that accomplishing things is impossible (either directly or indirectly, or, of course, both) won't hold. People have taken all the "must be something wrong with me if I'm not happy" anti-depressants they can. We want to work to do things, and we're very good at it -- the very capacity that our leaders have been exerting themselves so diligently to undermine (ironic in that if they'd just let us do what we're good at, that would be the most effective way for them to maintain their position and status, which seems to be all they care about). We are NOT going to work just to heap offerings at the feet of self-proclaimed little tin idols. They've exhausted that boondoggle.

To me nothing that this President comes up or the DNC either will make the GOP/ Tea party work with them, their major goal is to bring down this President and so, what if the country falls and the world. Most of them think the end of the world is coming and they will be saved because of belive Jesus will save them.
Myself I do think we should not be NFTA in back when Clinton was in office and then Bush/ Cheney gave to power to the banks to buy every bank in every little town, was a little much. taken jobs oversea's from our steel mills and clothing and etc just because they didn't want to pay a farewage, health insurance, retirement and getting us into two wars because of Bush want to get back at Iraq for might hurt his father was a little to much to hand.
Then turning around and blaming the unions, the teachers, the middle class for putting us here and DNC which is wrong, the GOP/ Tea party put us here and they are to blame of what is going on the hill and in the world

Good work, Dylan! I am with you, and I am mad as hell too!

"These capitalists generally act harmoniously and in concert, to fleece the people" - Abraham Lincoln

I am sick of the extremist capitalists ruining our great society!
And, to you cynics, I have worked hard for my living all my life...

The corporations are assuming control of this country and unfortunately, the President is being guided by these people and not common sense. The interests of business and the interests of government should not be one in the same and when they are, Fascism soon follows. Jobs being exported to other countries benefits business, not its citizens. Open trade/no tariffs do not benefit the people, it benefits business. Killing unions does not benefit the population, but it benefits business. The Citizens United decision has opened the flood gates to widespread corruption of the political process and if Americans are not afraid, they damn well better be.

Haven't always liked Dylan... but I've been watching him a bit more lately.
However, this time I agree with him.

Interest though, that others have 'ranted' along similar lines and have been
tarred and feathered by HuffinPuffin and othe progressive outlets.

The anger should be directed where it belongs... with the people WE sent
to represent us.
United we stand, divided we fall.

I'm glad he let go.

Have a good day

The GOP is bringing religion into politics which will add significant fuel to the fire. The political divide in our country could escalate into a civil war.
11:00 AM on 08/11/2011
Civil war is exactly what's going to happen if the GOP continues to mix it's Christian agenda with politics and to trash the poor middle and working class. It may be too late to avoid this. People are already talking this way. Esp the younger generation. They see the GOP's agenda as giving them no hope for a decent future. They have the energy and they're furious. Reminds me of the 60's..

Recall that the Civil War pitted Christian slave holders against Christian abolitionists. Bush said God told him to invade Iraq. The Pope said God told him the U. S. should not invade Iraq. Which Christian God should we believe? Michele, Mitt & Sarah know. Just elect one POTUS to find out what their God says to them.

Does anyone remember Steven Seagal on the roof with Fox and he says,"No one would ever believe me if I told them that BANKERS run the CIA." The Federal Reserve prints money out of thin air and loans it to us at interest. Then they get us to go fight wars that swell our debt to nightmarish proportions. Then they clamp down on all the social programs so that no good from our government ever reaches the people. A government by the people for the people? HA HA HA HA.

Obama is well paid to represent the best interests of the US. Why does it seem he has forgotten how to put those interests ahead of those of ALL other countries?
