Corporal Nathan Goodiron was known to his family and friends on the reservation as Young Eagle. He was twenty-five, and he was killed on Thanksgiving in Afghanistan when his patrol was hit by a grenade. As his loved ones come together to bury him, members of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas will be protesting on the outskirts of the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. They're protesting because in their opinion Goodiron died because America tolerates homosexuals.
Forget the fact that America is now a country where people who love each other aren't allowed to marry. Forget the answer you'd hear if you asked a gay kid in Bakersfield if she feels accepted. Forget every time your guy friend freaks out when a man hits on him in a bar in the West Village. But every time you hear some kid say, "That's soooooo gay!" remember that America's "tolerance" of homosexuals is shameful to say the least.
If you want to go to the Westboro Baptist homepage, then just google "god hates fags."
It'll tell you that "Matthew Shepard has been in hell for 2974 days!" and thus beats out Diane Whipple, who was a San Francisco woman mauled to death by dogs. I couldn't figure out why she'd been in hell other than the fact that she was mauled to death by dogs in San Francisco, and thus the dogs had dubious standards but then I clicked on the link near her name. Gee, this website is helpful! It will even tell you where and when the next Love Crusade is. If you're wondering what that is, it's what they call it when they stand outside the funerals of our fallen soldiers and scream how that's what they get.
For the record, I'd like every political hack, every war mongering neo-con, every Vice President, who has ever said that protesting in the streets and lobbying for peace dishonors our troops to take a good look at what dishonor really looks like.
