On last night's episode of "The Daily Show," Jon Stewart reported that pop icon Cher had called into C-SPAN several times at approximately 4:20 am PST on May 28th to complain about the inadequate armor protecting U.S. soldiers overseas:
CALLER: So-called Christian Republicans have sent the men and women of our armed forces into battle without the proper helmet. They don't even have the Teflar insert.
C-SPAN'S STEVE SCULLY: Is this Cher?
CALLER: Yeah.
Stewart then revealed that Cher had called in a few times, at one point saying on the air that "One of my best friends is Lou Dobbs."
This is not the first time Cher has called into C-SPAN - the Oscar-winning performer called in after visiting with wounded soldiers in October 2003, saying "Thank you for C-SPAN, I watch it every day!"and castigating "Cheney, Wolfowitz, Bremer, the President" for turning their backs on the wounded: " I don't understand why these guys are so hidden...these wounded are so devastadley wounded."
