ETP has learned that Mother Jones editor-in-chief Russ Rymer has been fired. This is the second time in two years that the editor of the liberal mag has been forced out, following Roger Cohn's departure from the position in 2004. Rymer, who has held the position since February 2005, had apparently had little interest in developing the magazine's online presence, and ETP hears that the board of the the Foundation for National Progress, which owns Mother Jones, was less than impressed with the mag's web performance (the magazine, known for its left-leaning bent and in-depth investigative pieces, recently underwent a website redesign). Mother Jones spokesperson Richard Reynolds has confirmed that "Russ Rymer and Mother Jones have parted ways"; a new editor has not yet been selected.
