That's pretty much the only way to beat the classic double-take of a headline on today's "NBC: First Read" email: "All Eyes Are On Rhode Island." Unfortunately in the actual online version they tease NBC opts for the more utiliatarian "First Glance." Borrrring! Still, it proves a point about direct emailing: A snappy headline will get the clicks (we saw this last month with the Women's Health "happy vagina" headline. Ha - something fun for when you google "Karl Rove" "Lincoln Chafee" and "vagina"! Well, to add to the 687 results you already get).
Something for nets, mags and other outlets to note (notably The Note, which annoys me daily with the ever-useful "Good Morning! The Note Is Ready." Delete!). In any case, Rhode Island is looking interesting today as Laffey and Chafee square off and Rove and co. try to protect their boy a la Connecticut (can "SwiftBoat Veterans For Chafee" be far behind?). Here at ETP, all we want is to direct your attention to the many different ways by which the media attract our eyeballs, and also to have an excuse to point out that "Laffey" and "Chafee" rhyme and are funny words.
