Biggest news by far today on Fox: Chris Wallace's contentious interview with Bill Clinton wherein Clinton went off on Wallace and right-wing critics of his attempts to apprehend bin Laden. You've no doubt read all about it by now but in case you haven't, read a precis here, the full transcript here, and watch a vid clip here, wherein Clinton jabs his finger at Wallace a full five times in fourteen seconds. In the meantime, they have been teasing the hell out of this story all day, including having commentators on relentlessly yammering about what it all means, before they've even run the interview (this sentence was spoken to a commenter: "You've seen the interview, right?"). The other networks, of course, have all been part of the Clinton blitz (including but not limited to today's "Meet The Press" plus the "Today" show, Comedy Central of course and CNN courtesy of today's "Reliable Sources." Guy's really going all the way to push his Global Initiative — and on Fox, Wallace went all the way to push the "Path To 9/11"-spawned bin laden question (and, earlier this morning on Fox in an exclusive "interview" about the interview, to portray himself as an innocent vessel of viewer curiosity and Clinton as being single-minded in sticking on the topic, which resulted in a 22-minute interview). There's no question that something uncorked in Clinton today, and it makes for a great transcript and very likely great TV. Wonder how this will affect Fox's ratings today, and Wallace's tonight; the Clinton excerpt is the top video on Fox today. Stay tuned for reaction, and, of course, the spin.
