In late November, Verizon announced that it would be offering YouTube clips on its cellphones; now it goes one better, with plans to offer full-length programming from major networks. According to the New York Times's Laura Holson, who scoops Verizon on the announcement, expected for Sunday, Verizon plans to offer eight channels including NBC, CBS, Fox, MTV and possibly ESPN, with whom Verizon is still in talks. The channels are slated for availability by end of March 2007. Holson notes that this deal marks the first time full-length programming will be available on cellphones in the U.S. (it's already availabe in Europe, which has been ahead in cellphone technology for ages), and will thus provide a competing platform to the iPod and it ilk.
