Who says things disappear in a blink in the 24-hour news cycle? Certainly not Shamu, the perpetual comeback kid of the NYT Most Emailed List, a Phoenix rising from the sodden, oceanic ashes to once again triumphantly reclaim its rightful crown. Sorry, but this whale moves us. And, apparently, NYTimes readers, who once again saw fit to blithely click it straight back up the charts for no apparent reason except, perhaps, for destiny. Behold, the once and everlasting king of MEL: Shamu.
Update: Mystery, solved. Shamu was granted a new lease on life courtesy of the NYT's Most Emailed List of 2006, sent out to its email list on Friday. Shamu was #1; the clicks of the curious no doubt followed, and the rest is history...repeating itself.
