After a near-six-month search, the Village Voice has landed a managing editor. Former Sun education reporter Deborah Kolben will start in April as ed-in-chief David Blum's right hand. A Brooklynite and U. Michigan graduate, Kolben has racked up an impressive clip roster at the New York Daily News, Brooklyn Papers, Jerusalem Report, Guardian and Financial Times, not to mention won two National Newspaper Association awards for her investigative reporting. Blum, who took the paper's helm on Sept. 13, 2006, has been actively searching for a managing editor since his arrival (with senior editor Ward Harkavy providing acting ME support in the interim), and has been in advanced stages of recruiting with at least two candidates prior to hiring Kolben. Proving once again that a little patience pays off in the end.
