Make way in the morning: Lou Dobbs will be waving the flag on CBS' "The Early Show," reports Gail Shister of the Philadelphia Inquirer, who still seems to be spending plenty of time on TV media despite being ostensibly reassigned to the pop culture beat. Dobbs, whose show airs seven nights per week, will multi-platform over to the A.M. crowd with "live, weekly commentaries on the set between 7 and 8 a.m... Topics will include his hot-button troika: immigration, public education and free trade." Which doesn't quite mesh with CBS morning news honcho Steve Friedman's assertion that he wants "a wide, varied Lou," but whatever. We loved Shister's first line though: "Just when you thought Lou Dobbs couldn't possibly suck ..." — and then there was a new line, so readers had a split second to finish the sentence however they wished before continuing with "...up any more face time." "
Meanwhile, Dobbs joins fellow CNNer Anderson Cooper as a CBS contributor, as well as Dr. Sanjay Gupta, prompting TVNewser to gripe, "Just merge already." Snicker. We love when TVNewser does snark. In any case, will this move be enough to shake the Early Show out of its way-behind third place morning slot? Unlikely. But it might wake up a few viewers. Throw Katie Couric into the mix for a few guest spots and hey — you never know. After all, ABC and Charlie Gibson have shown that things can be shaken up. So who knows.
