When it comes to touting their own success, no one in the TV news biz needs to be modest or mousey about it. Check out CNN's ad! It's like a movie one-sheet, complete with touts, taglines and a stoic shot of the star! All it needs is an ominous trailer! "In a world full of potential fathers to Anna Nicole's child...in a room filled with retina-scorching plasma screens..."
And, CNN=Politics? Well, our mother always told us never to bring up CNN or religion in polite company.
And on the network teevee side of things, ABC was only too happy to furnish us with a press release touting their recent successes. "'World News with Charles Gibson' Is the #1 Evening Newscast Among Total Viewers, Households, and Adults 25-54! ABC Posts Largest Total Viewer Advantage over NBC in Nearly 19 Months! ABC Ranks #1 Among Total Viewers for 6th Time in 9 Weeks! ABC Places First in Key Demo Rating for 8th Time in 10 Weeks! "World News" Is the Only Evening Newscast to Grow Its Total Viewing Audience Versus a Year Ago & Season-to-Date!" Awesome news, ABC! And, hey, don't be fazed if viewership at CBS spikes a little this week! Everyone will be tuning in for the wrong reason, anyway.
All of which has led your Eat The Pressers to wonder: What does Charlie Gibson gotta do to be as cool as Brian Williams? Maybe he needs to get his big head installed on the new Daily Show set!
