Last night WaPo's Dana Milbank stopped by "Countown" decked in full-on white tie for Queen Elizabeth II's visit last evening, looking very dapper indeed (or, as Keith Olbermann suggested, like a waiter,* if you go to them fancy places that Olbermann now frequents, as befits someone with a fancy $4-million-a-year salary and a fancy $4-million home. Olbermann will have the lobster tail! He's fancy!). Milbank gave the report from the scene, describing the Queen's reaction to Bush's gaffe ("You helped our nation celebrate its bicentennial in 17 - in 1976..." followed by a wink, which was apparently return with something Milbank identified as either "a grimace or a smile," aka a "smimace"**). Then they made fun of British hats (Milbank, belying his sartorial elegance, referred to Her Majesty's hat as a "Dr. Seuss hat") and bandied British and Latin phrases about and generally had a jolly good time. Right, then! Pip pip! Cheerio!
Also, apparently the Queen doesn't watch the NBC Nightly News. And thus ends our excuse to post a pic of Dana Milbank playing dress-up.

*Reminds us of a line from Sunset Boulevard, where Norma Desmond is getting Joe Gillis dressed up for New Year's over his protestations that he won't wear a tux: "Of course not, dear, tuxedos are for waiters!" Then things went bad and she shot him.
**Milbank did not say the word "smimace."
