The (boring, but true!) secret to successful weight loss is to eat less and move more. But I don't know anyone who doesn't want a few tips and tricks to help them slim down. My personal favorite is to up the amount of my fiber in my diet. Why fiber? Recent research in the Journal of Nutrition suggests eating more fiber as a way to prevent weight gain or even encourage weight loss. Over the course of the two-year study, the researchers found that boosting fiber by 8 grams for every 1,000 calories resulted in about 4 1/2 pounds of weight lost.

Here are five fiber-rich foods that help do the weight-loss work for you:

How are we supposed to lose weight on a high GI food diet? Pumpkins, sweet potatoes and chickpeas are GI high. They won't help you lose weight, no matter how much fiber in them!

People need to know how to eat healthy without using expensive organic foods. Limited incomes mean no trips to health food stores or gym classes. Limited mobility also makes preparing food more difficult. Once the reality of food preparation is addressed, it will be easier for most people to lose weight.

Organic isn't always expensive. I'd rather pay a few dollars more now than thousands for chemo later. Just buy your organic food wisely. Go to farmers' markets, buy things on sale, and buy SEASONAL foods! Also, COOK! Don't buy "organic pre-made" stuff. Buy organic produce, and produce food from them!

I love to cook and always buy produce on sale. I would need a taxi to the farmer's market which would add to the cost. This summer a new one is supposed to open. I have my fingers crossed.

Eating healthier is a good idea, but please, don't lead people to believe that certain foods or diets are going to do the work for you.

I finally lost 140 pounds after 25 year of obesity and dieting failure when I discovered how to do the work to succeed with Behavioral Medicine's Therapeutic Psychogenics. Please read my article about Behavioral Medicine: http://theandersonmethod.com/category/what-is-behavioral-medicine-and-behavioral-healthcare/

People can solve their weight problem, but tips and diets won't do the trick. They need to learn something else.

So is your process expensive by frequent high cost therapy sessions that last for years?

The cost depends on what a person can afford and wants to spend. Some go to the library, borrow the book and are able to apply what they learn as a self help. For them the cost is zero. Many buy the book at $14.95. For the one-on-one training, therapists charge what therapists normally charge, each one in charge of their own practice. Some take insurance when the client is also seeing them for other coexisting conditions like depression, for instance. The initial training involves weekly sessions for about three months. Sometimes people do that without follow-up. Sometimes, as with all counseling relationships, people come for "check-ups" several times a year, just like medical check-ups. It all depends on what the person can afford and what they want to do.

While these foods are great for those who are dieting, the more important consideration for many people looking to lose weight is how to maintain their motivation and will-power to see their program through.

The only way towards permanent weight loss it a thorough understanding of the human body. Most programs only concentrate on the diets and exercises and don't even educate their clients on how the body works. It is important to know how to feed, care and exercise your body so it performs at its best all the time. Education is the hall-mark of a good weight loss program.

I've personally lost 180lbs since Dec 2009. My blood pressure was 160/110, now its 120/80. My cholesterol was 256 mg/dL, now its 176mg/dL. I'm no longer Pre-Diabetic and I'm in the best shape of my life. It wasn't easy but I can say that everyone can do it if they have the right program.

Cheers.
