As a president for UNA Pasadena/Foothills Chapter, she has attended United Nations world conferences and annual UN meetings as an NGO delegate and journalist. She performs her acclaimed one-woman show, “Now That She’s Gone,” a comic memoir about growing up Norwegian American to SRO audiences and is currently active with 50-50 Leadership, a non-profit that envisions more women and girls in leadership positions as well as serving on the boards of Impact Personal Safety (www.impactpersonalsafety.com) and Consumer Watchdog (www.consumerwatchdog.org). She presents personal safety talks and workshops for corporations and educational institutions as “The Safety Godmother.”

Gavin de Becker is our Nation's best-known expert on the prediction and management of violence. His work has earned him three Presidential appointments and a position on a congressional committee.

He was twice appointed to the President's Advisory Board at the U.S. Department of Justice, and he served two terms on the Governor's Advisory Board at the California Department of Mental Health.

His 160-member consulting firm advises government agencies, universities, police departments, corporations, and media figures on the assessment of threats and hazards. Gavin de Becker & Associates maintains the world's largest library of threat and obsessive communications, consisting of more than 400,000 pieces of material.

Gavin is the author of the first bestselling book written about threat assessment. THE GIFT OF FEAR spent four months on the NY Times Bestseller List, and is now published in thirteen languages.

His second book, PROTECTING THE GIFT explored the safety of children and was the Number One parenting book of 1999.

His current book, FEAR LESS: Real Truth About Risk, Safety, and Security in a Time of Terrorism appeared on the NY Times Bestseller List in its first week. The entire proceeds from FEAR LESS go to Victory Over Violence, the charity he co-founded to provide direct support to Battered Women's Shelters.

Gavin is the designer of the MOSAIC threat assessment systems used to screen threats to Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court, members of Congress, and senior officials of the CIA. Along with the U.S. Marshals Service, he co-designed the MOSAIC system currently used for assessing all threats to Federal Judges and prosecutors.

Gavin has shared his philosophies about prevention of violence in several appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show, 60 Minutes, Larry King Live, and 20/20. His work has also been featured in Time and Newsweek Magazines, among many others.

Gavin is a Senior Fellow at the UCLA School of Public Affairs and, a Senior Advisor to the Rand Corporation on public safety and justice matters.
