Ellen Sterling is an award-winning journalist and editor who, after spending most of her life in New York — with a few years out for Washington University in St. Louis — has lived in Las Vegas for four + years. She writes on myriad subjects for myriad outlets and has written a coffee table-format history of Long Island. She’s been working on a murder mystery and has a couple of ideas for books about Las Vegas. In addition to carrying on a life-long affair with theater , Ellen's passions include film, books, music, history and politics. She loves to do research —almost cannot remember a time before the Internet — and, while missing New York, finds Las Vegas very interesting. She also owns/moderates the world's largest fansite for an amazing singer

Posted November 18, 2009 | 12:01 AM (EST)

2009-11-18-elisabethhasselbeck.jpg I wasn't going to say anything but I have been thinking about it all day -- I agree with Elisabeth Hasselbeck and that bothers me. And, while I know it's what she's saying that is important, rather than the fact that it is she...

"Press"ing Issues In Las Vegas

1 Comments | Posted November 2, 2009 | 04:42 PM (EST)

After thinking about it for awhile, I've come to the conclusion that I am naive. Or, at least, naive about my chosen profession, journalism. You see, I believe that journalism is a higher calling that exists-- if not to correct them -- to point out the wrongs perpetrated on our...

2009-10-06-phantomfett.jpgWe've heard about the Deadheads who followed the Grateful Dead hither and yon. We've seen people line up for days before the opening of a new Star Wars film, before tickets to the World Series or Super Bowl go on sale or show up at...

If Las Vegas Is a Foodie's Heaven, Raku Is One of the Pearly Gates

1 Comments | Posted September 24, 2009 | 07:39 PM (EST)

Because I really didn't know and I like the metaphor, I looked it up and there are twelve Pearly Gates into heaven. And since just about everyone I've ever taken to eat in Raku says it's "heavenly" (except the guys who say some variation of "great"), I thought I'd tell...

2009-09-20-chazz.jpg OK, I'll confess. After being (quite gently) "accused" of writing mostly about entertainment here and spending a weekend immersed in the best theater has to offer anywhere in the world (more about that another time) I've changed my bio here to confess to having...

I went to a forum here in Las Vegas on health care reform last night. I didn't walk in without knowing who'd invited me (local Clark County Democratic Party activists because I'm not on any GOP mailing lists), or who was sponsoring...

The thing about the...
