Top 10 New Foods At The 2011 State Fairs

Posted: 09/19/11 11:31 AM ET

It's America's favorite meal - the state fair! Every year, the fairs across this great land compete with each other to invent bigger, badder, greasier fair food. But after Texas stepped up its game last year with deep fried beer, this thing hit a whole 'nother level. The 2011 state and country fair foods have been more insane -- and more amazing -- than ever. Here are our top 10 favorite finds.

Could there be anything more American than dipping a hot dog in batter, deep frying it and eating it off a stick? Why yes, there could be. You could cover it in chocolate and put sprinkles on top. My Burning Kitchen has more on chocolate covered corn dogs. (Photo: My Burning Kitchen)

How about some articles describing some low-calorie, nutritious foods which are being introduced at state and county fairs? Or are such foods being prohibited by big business?

WILL YOU LOOK AT THAT. . . IN ORANGE COUNTY (CA) THEY GIVE YOU A QUARTER OF A CORNDOG AND COVER IT WITH CHOCOLATE AND TELL YOU HOW GOOD IT IS SIX BUCKS, PLEASE. MUST BE LOPEZ CONCESSIONS. . . GOD YOU DESERVE PALOSI!

I work for a concession company in NC, we have been serving fried Kool Aid for 2 years, nothing was debuted in Sandy Eggo, except a man that stole another man's pictures.

OH, SORRY. RETIRED IN 2008 AFTER 41 YEARS. THE ONLY THING INVENTED ON THE WEST COAST, AT THE "BIG" SHOW, IS HOW TO COPY, REDUCE THE PORTIONS, MAKE IT CHEAPER, AND SCREW THE CUSTOMER. DON'T LOOK FOR WORK THERE EITHER, IT IS ALL IMPORTED FROM SOUTH AFRICA, FOR TAX REASONS. THEY GET PAID ABOUT HALF AND DON'T HAVE TO PAY TAXES. LET'S SEE OBAMA IS CREATING JOBS. . . JUST NOT HERE. WELCOME TO THE CALIFORNIA FAIRS. . . DUH!

That is it, I am getting a deep fryer, I really want to try some of these. They should have a traveling fair that is nothing but the strangest fair food around.

Most of these are pretty horrifying [insert gloomy comment about obesity epidemic here] but I bet the "El Bananarito" is really tasty. A sushi place we used to go to had a tempura-fried banana with ice cream and chocolate sauce, and it was delicious -- and this is similar...

I tried Fried Beer at the Wisconsin State Fair this year. Not bad! I'm not a beer drinker but I have to say it was tasty.

HuffPo, you need to change the credit/caption for your photo of the chocolate-covered corn dog.

The photo was taken by my wife @DarleneEats (that's my hand holding the cup) and it was at the San Diego County Fair this summer. The photo was swiped from her blog by Rich Manning of Foodie-a-Gogo without either of our permissions and passed off as his own work. Please change the credit and caption to reflect Darlene and her blog --> http://myburningkitchen.com/2011/06/05/san-diego-county-fair-dont-drink-the-kool-aid/

I appreciate your attention in this matter; giving credit to a thief for stolen work reflects poorly on you.

Unfortunately, that also carries the admission that you purchased and (presumably), ate said item.

Glad you survived.

ha ha...big yucks on that one...

Actually, the chocolate-covered corn dog was offered at a media party prior to the opening of the San Diego County Fair (not the Orange County Fair) so no money was exchange. And yes, I did take a bite and tasted exactly what you think it tasted like.

While you're moderating this, why don't you correct the credit the photo to My Burning Kitchen (http://myburningkitchen.com/2011/06/05/san-diego-county-fair-dont-drink-the-kool-aid/)? Crediting Foodie A Go-Go credits someone that swiped the photo without my permission and passed it as his own.
