If you think New York Comic Con is still just for fanboys, you’re mistaken. Yes, self-identifying nerds attend the celebration in glorious abundance every year, but what struck this first time Comic-Con-goer was how many families of all kinds were in attendance.

Trust us, once you’ve seen one toddler roll around on the floor of the Javits Center in a BB-8 costume while his mother, dressed as Rey from “Star Wars,” furiously chases after him, you’ll be convinced of the convention’s universal appeal.

“It’s something only we share together,” one dad, dressed in a matching full-body Spider-Man costume, with his teenage daughter told The Huffington Post. “I grew up reading comics and now she’s growing up watching comic-book movies.”
