COLD CASE OF THE WEEK
Findgeorgeskipzelaya.com
George "Skip" Zelaya, of Homosassa, Fla., has been missing for nearly eight years. According to Zelaya's daughter, Kathleen Howarth, her dad was last seen by his ex-wife on January 13, 2005. Five days later his car was found parked at a shopping center off Highway 19. Zelaya's wallet was found under the seat and was empty, all but for some photographs and his social security card. Investigators conducted a search of the area, but were unable to find any clues. On Jan. 25, 2005, Zelaya's brother allegedly received two envelopes in the mail. One contained Zelaya's driver's license and check card, the other envelope contained three checks, along with a note that read: "After you cash this there should be about 1,300.00 left use the card pin … or use the checks. Remember, you're on the account too. Sorry. Skip." The following day, a friend of Zelaya's ex-wife contacted his brother and informed him that she had received an envelope with an audio tape. The tape allegedly contained recordings of conversations Zelaya's ex-wife had with her friends about other men. Despite the indication that he had ran off, Zelaya's family members refused to give up the search and hired a private investigator to look into the case. The exact details of his investigation have not been made public, but it left the investigator and Zelaya's family convinced that he did not disappear of his own accord. At the time of his disappearance, Zelaya was 61 years old, 130 pounds and 5 feet 9 inches tall. He had brownish gray hair and blue eyes. He uses glasses and has a full set of dentures.
