Here's What Happened When Chris Hemsworth Went To Prison

Meet your new cellmate.

Chris Hemsworth is totally a Piper.

During a visit to "The Graham Norton Show" on Friday, the Australian actor shared a story about his time in lockup. Before you start searching for skeletons in his closet, Hemsworth was preparing for the role of a computer hacker in the thriller "Blackhat."

"I was researching a film and we had to go in and basically see what the inside of a prison looked like and speak with prisoners who were willing to talk to us," he explained.

Hemsworth was confident he wouldn't be recognized by the prison's inmates until he was asked to remove his hat, revealing the signature blond ponytail he'd grown for his alter ego Thor.

He recalled thinking, "No, they don’t get 'Thor' in here, they’re not going to watch movies. I don’t know, I’d never been to prison. So, I assumed that."

Inmates watch movies too, Chris.

"The moment I started walking through the cells … I just started getting heckled," he continued. "It's like...'Thor’s here, man. …Thor! Thor! Where’s your hammer man?’ And I’m trying to blend in and ‘research,’ and I’m just getting heckled left and right.'"

This isn't the first time Hemsworth has dived deep into a role. To prepare for the upcoming adventure epic "In the Heart of the Sea," he consumed as few as 500 calories a day to look like a sailor on the verge of starvation. He posted a photo of his extreme weight loss on Instagram with the caption, "Just tried a new diet/training program called 'Lost At Sea.' Wouldn't recommend it."

You have to see the pic to believe it.

"In the Heart of the Sea" opens in theaters Dec. 11.
