Some of the most successful episodes of "Community" (Thu., 8 p.m. ET on NBC) have featured unorthodox examinations of the characters that make up this study group. This latest installment was possibly the most surreal experiment yet, as it featured Annie stepping into the "Dreamatorium" with Abed. It's basically a room for make-believe for Troy and Abed, but when Annie sets Troy up on an impromptu date, it leaves Abed with no partner for the adventure.
But as soon as Annie steps into the Dreamatorium, the usual adventure turns into an examination of what makes Annie tick, even stepping back in time to a pivotal moment in her relationship with Jeff. The special effects were spectacular, as Abed stepped into the roles of everyone else in the study group. But did the experiment work?
"It gets sort of heavy," series co-star Jim Rash said of the episode. Only a show like "Community" can balance near-insanity and heavy character moments so successfully.
