Conan O'Brien Reveals How Garry Shandling Once 'Magically' Appeared Just When He Was Needed Most

"He had a ton of empathy for other people."

Garry Shandling wasn't just a beloved comic and TV star. He also had a bit of magic in him.

Back in 2010, when Conan O'Brien was forced out of "The Tonight Show," things looked pretty dire. But then Shandling showed up in the most unlikely place to help.

"Garry just magically appeared," O'Brien recalled on Thursday night, hours after Shandling died at the age of 66.

"He had a ton of empathy for other people," O'Brien recalled. "That is something in this business -- in comedy -- that is very rare. He really did care about other people."
